Microsoft Solitaire Collection game info

Microsoft Solitaire already exists for more than 30 years, and is now also available on Solitaire Paradise! Full of additional features such as Daily Challenges and the Star Club, it is guaranteed to bring you hours of solitaire fun. Microsoft Solitaire Collection (also known as MSN Solitaire Collection) features the five most popular solitaire games: Klondike, FreeCell, Spider, Pyramid and TriPeaks.

Included games

  • Klondike: Microsoft Klondike Solitaire is the classic solitaire game often just referred to as solitaire. Microsoft Solitaire Collection gives the option to play with drawing 1 card at a time or drawing 3 cards at a time. For scoring, the game features the Vegas scoring system in addition to the traditional scoring.
  • Spider: Microsoft Spider Solitaire is a more challenging game played with 104 cards (two decks) which takes longer to complete. If you are new to the game, start with the 1 suit version, or otherwise pick the 2 suits or 4 suits version.
  • FreeCell: Microsoft FreeCell has all cards visible from the start and hence requires more skill than luck.
  • TriPeaks: In Microsoft TriPeaks you need to make sequences of cards that are one higher or lower in rank. The name comes from the layout in which the cards are dealt.
  • Pyramid: Microsoft Pyramid Solitaire has you combining cards into pairs which sum up to 13. Pairs will be removed from the board, and it is your challenge to remove all cards in the pyramid from the board.

Game Difficulties

In Microsoft Solitaire Collection players can choose the difficulty of their games. This is especially useful in games such as 4 Suits Spider Solitaire, which are already quite difficult when playing in easier modes.

Daily Challenges

Each day, there is a new challenge for each of the five games. These challenges are guaranteed to be solvable, and often consist of completing a game partly. The type of challenges are Card Challenge (e.g. play two Sevens to the foundation), Score Challenge (e.g. Earn a score of 750), Board Challenge (e.g. clear two boards in 1 deal), or Solve Challenge (e.g. solve the deck). Each challenge has an associated difficulty (Easy, Medium or Hard). For each completed challenge you will earn coins. When completing a certain number of challenges in a month, you will receive badges!

Star Club

The Star Club features more challenges. The challenges are arranged by game and in packs. You will earn stars by completing challenges, which you will need to unlock all challenges. Next to challenge packs linked to a specific game, there are also mixed collections which have challenges featuring all five games.

Themes

You can customise the look and feel of the Microsoft Solitaire Collection by picking your favourite theme. The currently available themes are Classic (simple and clean cards), Aquarium, Fable, Western, Beach, Autumn, and Jumbo (larger cards). Switching theme can be done from the Microsoft Solitaire Collection start screen.

History

Microsoft Solitaire already exists for more than 30 years, but the first version of Microsoft Solitaire Collection was released on October 26, 2012. It was released on Windows 8 as a replacement for the solitaire games which were previously automatically bundled with Windows. In Windows 8 however, the solitaire games were not present anymore and users had to download the Microsoft Solitaire Collection from the Windows Store. Similar to how the original windows solitaire games were introduced to teach users how to drag and drop with a mouse, this time the Microsoft Solitaire Collection was used to introduce users to the Windows Store. The Windows 10 version was released on July 29, 2015. The iOS and Android versions were released on November 23, 2016.

More Microsoft games

In addition to the solitaire games made by Microsoft, we also have Microsoft Mahjong, Microsoft Sudoku and the classic Windows version of Minesweeper.

System requirements

Microsoft Solitaire Collection can be played in all modern browsers, on all device types (desktop, tablet, mobile), and on all operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, ...).
