The AIRail Terminal at Frankfurt Airport is being refurbished. As a result of the building works, there is currently no bag drop available at the AIRail Terminal. For bag drop, please use the self-service bag drop kiosks and counters in Departure Halls A and B. Just follow the signs.
After landing at Frankfurt Airport, and if you are continuing your journey with Lufthansa Express Rail or Lufthansa Express Bus, you can still collect your baggage from the carousel in the AIRail Terminal at the long-distance train station.

- Online or mobile check-in is available from 30 hours before your flight departs up to 15 minutes before your train departs.
- One boarding pass each for Lufthansa Express Rail and your connecting flight.
- Your boarding pass serves as your ticket for the train.

Quickly, simply and conveniently from the long-distance train station to your departure gate
It only takes a few minutes to walk between the long-distance train station and Terminal 1 at Frankfurt Airport. If you don’t have much time, as a Lufthansa Express Rail customer you always have the option of using the fast tracks at security so you can reach your departure gate quickly and conveniently.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Lufthansa Express Rail includes an advance seat reservation. For Lufthansa First Class and Business Class passengers, seats are reserved in the 1st class compartment on the train. If you are travelling in Lufthansa Premium Economy or Economy Class, you will find your reserved seat in the train’s 2nd class compartment.
Yes, Lufthansa Express Rail can also be booked for just one leg of your journey. To do this, select the “multi-stop flight” option in the flight search and enter your route accordingly.
For example: Mannheim–Frankfurt, Frankfurt–New York, New York–Frankfurt
With Lufthansa Express Rail you can check in online or via your mobile phone from 30 hours before your flight departs and up to 15 minutes before your train departs. You will receive one boarding pass each for the train journey and the flight. The boarding pass is your train ticket and is only valid for the connection printed on it. In case of failure to comply, Deutsche Bahn may charge fares retrospectively.
Lufthansa baggage regulations apply to all Lufthansa Express Rail connections. The free baggage allowance complies with the baggage regulations of your connecting flight.
As a Lufthansa Express Rail passenger, you are responsible for your own baggage during the train journey. Bag drop in the AIRail Terminal at Frankfurt Airport is currently unavailable due to refurbishment works. For bag drop, please use the self-service bag drop kiosks and counters in Departure Halls A and B.
On your return journey, you can collect your baggage after landing in Frankfurt from the carousel in the AIRail Terminal and take it with you straight to your train.
Please note:
- Unfortunately, bicycles, surfboards and sports weapons cannot be transported.
- Dogs and cats may be transported.
- Your bulky and sports baggage and your pets can be checked in at Frankfurt in Departures Hall B, counters 445/446.
Our aim is to look after your needs as individually and comprehensively as possible – please therefore let us know your requirements, ideally at the time of booking.
If you are travelling with a wheelchair, a member of staff from the Deutsche Bahn (DB) passenger information desk will accompany you to your train seat 30 minutes before the train departs. Upon your arrival, a member of our customer service team will take you to your departure gate.
Please note: unfortunately, you will not be able to travel with Lufthansa Express Rail if you require a medical escort or must be transported lying down.
At the current time, no cross-border Lufthansa Express Rail connection is available. If you wish to travel by train to Frankfurt from another European country, please book this through Deutsche Bahn (DB) or the train company of the country from which you are travelling.
* Lufthansa First and Business Class passengers as well as Lufthansa HON Circle Members and Senators with a valid Lufthansa Express Rail boarding pass have access to the premium area of the DB lounge.
