In my opinion FRA is the best airport of the world, also because of the perfect cargo handling on the other side of the field. If you read and follow the rules, the airport employees will be friendly and help you all the time.

My husband and I were coming to Germany from Chicago and the signage at the passport control was small and hard to read. We ended up in the wrong line and had to go figure out what line was for US Citizens. We had a connection so after passport control we had to go through security again. There was a huge line and our connection was coming soon. Airport personnel yelled at people to go this other way because there was another line that was supposedly shorter. So we walked for what felt like miles and finally got to the security line. There was a huge line there as well. We made it to our flight, but turns out they were holding it because oodles of people were stuck in their security nightmare. Make sure you have at least a couple hours between flights. My husband was randomly selected for a security check and they did not leave one spot untouched (if you get my drift). The female security people were rude to me because I did not move the way they wanted (they were not real clear) and patted me down as well and I have a German name. I have a feeling they are just jerks to all people no matter who or what you are.

The German police checked my credentials after exiting the aircraft, then after wondering around trying to figure out where to go for my connecting flight, they stopped me and rudely requested my credentials and asked where I was coming from again. I got the feeling they were only checking people of color. The airport lacked personnel to assist with airport information and directions. This assistance was needed due to the lack of signs providing information. Myself and other travelers wondered around until we eventually got to the right spot. The distance between gates seem ridiculous. The airport needs updating. I arrived at 5:20 a.m. Things got better after about 7 a.m.

I travel annually to Tehran on Lufthansa and change flights in Frankfurt. While the attitude of the airport personnel is in sharp contrast with that of Lufthansa personnel, my main problem has been the loss of cash in $$ that I carry with me in money belts, body pouches or envelopes, as this is the only purchasing method in present day Iran. To date I have lost $1800.00; $100.00, 300.00, 400.00 and finally $1000.00 on my last transit on Oct. 19, 2011. As these losses were discovered only during unpacking on arrival in Tehran the only time I could report and lodge a complaint was on my return to USA passing again through Frankfurt. As a rule my complaints are handled with sarcasm and disbelief and brushed aside. So a word of caution; do not let your cash and valuables out of sight during security inspections. Insist that they be inspected VISUALLY IN YOUR PRESENCE. Comments regarding similar problems are welcome.

I flew into Frankfurt on Lufthansa to connect with another Lufthansa flight to Toronto Canada, and think that the airport staff need to take some tips from the Lufthansa flight crew on good manners and how to treat fellow human beings. The airport is huge so make sure have leave enough time to connect with your next flight. It’s very old and in lots of places there were ceiling tiles hanging off, and places on the ceilings where you could see water had leaked through and stained it. Lots of areas were closed off with hazard tape and you could see it was just because that part was in bad repair. I sat on some ripped seats and watched water drip from the ceiling into a bucket on my return flight, and could not get over how dirty the lounge was and the toilets were so bad that you had to hold your nose and just do your thing. This airport is huge, they bus you in from the planes which also adds to your delay. I stood on a bus for over forty minutes before we made the one mile journey to the arrivals area. The bus driver drives like he’s on a racetrack and seamed to no be concerned about the standing passengers. Departing from the airport is hard on your legs as you have to walk miles to the gates and it’s poorly sign posted. When you get there you queue up and think it’s all going fine until they open your flight and everyone surges forward as the staff try and funnel three lines of people through a gab big enough for one line of people. I know it’s to try and get the plane loaded faster but all it does is causes people to push and nudge you out of the way with some peoples tempers getting a little bit strained. Once on-board the Lufthansa flight I was back in the really good care of people that treated me with the same respect that I bestowed on them. The airport is big, dirty, the staff are rude and unhelpful, you have to walk for ages to your gate, you spend too long on the shuttle bus and just make your flight. I would only use this airport based on cost, I would not make it an airport of choice and certainly would not recommend it to anyone.

Comparing with the airports in Canada, Frankfurt airport is very poorly designed and old fashion airport. It is very complex, untidy and dirty airport. The staff is rude and need to be educated how to treat passengers. I will avoid using this airport in the future.

A terrible experience connecting flight at FRA. I came from CPH to FRA to US, and asked an airport personnel. They told me to go to the wrong gate, then I have to run to the other end of the airport to get to the right gate. Before that, we were asked to pass through a security check which took forever, thus the reason of almost missing my plane. I heard several similar complains from fellow passengers. If you have this website, maybe you should read the passenger’s input, and improve your service. Germans can do better than that, don’t you think?

Very large airport (keep in mind if you have no time to switch aircraft), quite clean, good shopping, no rip-offs.

Very busy airport and not so efficient. You may need to walk for 10-15 minutes between gates. You may have to go through security more than once. Aircrafts may need a long time between landing and parking. Staff not extremely friendly.

The Rhein-Main Flughafen alias Flughafen Frankfurt am Main alias Frankfurt Airport City has two terminals I and II. It may take 15 minutes to go from the one to the other terminal. They are linked by bus and mono rail. There is also a railway station for commuter and intercity travel. It may take 30 minutes from the railway platform to the arrival and departure arears of the airport. Internet facilities are provided for free in terminal I and II.
