Nobility. Duke of Milan and first ruler from the Sforza dynasty. He was the son of the condottiere Muzio Attendolo Sforza and his mistress Lucia Terzani da Torgiano. In 1418 he first married Polissena Ruffo who bore him a daughter. Both died in 1420. In 1441 he married Bianca Maria Visconti, only daughter of Filippo Maria Visconti, Duke of Milan. After Filippo Viscontis death, he defeated the people of Milan who had founded a republic and became Duke. He allied himself with Cosimo de' Medici and Louis XI of France and was able to expand his predominance in the region. He ruled over Venice, Lombardy and even Genoa.
