Welcome to the Ending Explained for ‘The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete,’ a film written by Michael Starrbury and directed by George Tillman Jr. The film stars Skylan Brooks, Ethan Dizon, Anthony Mackie, Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, and Jeffrey Wright.

The film tells the harsh story of Mister, a young boy who dreams of becoming an actor, but the reality of his environment stops him. When he joins forces with his friend Pete, the pair will try to survive for an entire summer as things become increasingly problematic.

‘The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete’ is a fantastic drama that rises above others thanks to its fantastic casting. However, in this case, we are not talking about the famous names that are involved in the movie. Actually, the most famous actors here just appear every once in a while. The show’s real stars are Skylan Brooks and Ethan Dizon, as the titular characters. The boys steal every scene they are in, and they are put into some very awful situations. However, the young actors always rise above them and do their job with dignity and proficiency. They have a ton of potential.

Why are Mister and Pete alone?

The film begins with the introduction of our main character, Mister, a young black kid of around twelve years old. We see him for the first time at school, watching with horror at the grade for one of his final exams. Mister just got an F, and he cries in frustration, hidden in the bathroom. It is quite sad. However, when his teacher tries to give him a lift and offers to help, Mister insults him. Mister seems very smart, but something is bothering him. Once he gets home, we see what is happening to him.

At home, we meet his mother, Gloria, and we also glimpse Pete, a younger Korean kid who sometimes stays there. Mister doesn’t want to babysit him, but Gloria says he must. Gloria is quite high; she is a clear drug addict, and Mister knows it, and Pete too. Gloria gives them her welfare card to go and buy something for dinner, but at the store, they learn there is no money on the card. Mister gets in a fight with the store owner, and he gets banned from going in. Gloria then takes them to a restaurant to eat burgers, but she goes to the bathroom with a stranger, and Mister sees her doing sex work.

At home, Mister sees that the police have taken away a man and his son; he fears this could happen to him, too, as that man worked with his mother. They work under the big boss around, a man named Kris. Pete is still around and doesn’t understand why he is not at his house.

The worst happens, and the police come for his mom. They take her away, but Mister and Pete manage to hide themselves. Mister has been expecting her mother to take her to an actor’s audition in Beverly Hills, but that plan seems to be gone. Mister expects her mother to come back.

Mister and Pete manage to live by themselves for a couple of weeks, but they are out of money and food. Mister comes across an old friend named Julia. She is older but treats Mister with care. She seems to be going out with an older man who gave her tons of money. She gives them food. While riding in her car, we see that Pete’s mother is also a drug addict but in a worse state than Gloria. Mister sees this and identifies with Pete. It is just the two of them now. Mister calls the police to check her mom’s status, and they inform him that she was released a week ago.

Where Is Mister’s Mother

Gloria has been released for more than a week, but she never went back to the apartment. Mister sees this as proof that he has been abandoned. Mister tries to be the older brother and tries to keep Pete’s concerns in check. Mister begins to try methods to get food and such so they can survive.

The police are also looking for them. They stay hidden most of the time. They know that being captured would mean that they would get sent to Riverview, an orphanage. Mister gets involved once more with the store owner after he denies them ice. The store owner threatens Mister with a bat.

Mister is also the target of a young criminal named Dip Stick, who always looks to mess with him. Mister tries to act tough, but every new encounter makes him weaker and weaker. When Stick finally beats Mister in public, Julia appears to help, and Mister, in anger, pushes her away.

She later comes back with burgers and food, which they need. Julia says she is Mister’s friend and will always want to help him. Mister kisses her, and she leaves, promising to return after dealing with her own problems.

The food runs out once again, and the house has no electricity. And so they go to a supermarket, where Mister uses his acting abilities to get some food. They also try to steal some food from other apartments, but knowing it is wrong, they stop themselves from doing it.

Their apartment gets robbed, they have no food and no money, and the situation seems desperate. Mister and Pete go to the audition, but Mister is forbidden from taking it as he doesn’t have an agent or a legal guardian present. He delivers his Fargo monologue, but the casting director can do nothing without his mother’s presence.

When Pete gets sick, Mister knows it is the time to ask for help. He goes to find Julia, but she is gone; she moves out. Mister comes back to see the police capture Pete and take him away to Riverview. Mister tries one last resort and asks for a job from Kris, her mother’s boss and the neighborhood’s chief drug dealer and pimp. Kris gives him some money, but at that moment, the store owner tries to strangle Mister for their past transgressions. The police arrive and arrest the man, but Mister is finally taken away to Riverview.

At the orphanage, Mister reunites with Pete, who has healed, and says the food in there is pretty good. Pete looks beaten, so Mister tells him to point out who did it. Weeks later, Gloria appears at Riverview looking for Mister.

We learn that she never really abandoned Mister; she actually went into rehab thinking that Mister would be at the orphanage during her entire process. Now that she has been sober for a few months, she grabs her son. Mister promises Pete that they will come back for him.

The movie finishes with Mister going back to school. He is in the class of the teacher who tried to help him at the start of the movie. The teacher asks the kids for a summer report. Mister writes his report and titles it “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete” putting his memories on paper and getting ready to start a new phase in his life.
