‘Of course my mom is brave': Mariel Hemingway's daughter pays tribute to her mom as the pair star together in a touching video campaign for Coach

Their family heritage is rich with tradition, and yet also rife with tragedy. But Mariel Hemingway and her daughter, artist Langley Fox, look like nothing less than the perfect functional family in a touching new ad campaign for fashion label coach.

The granddaughter and great-granddaughter of the author Ernest Hemingway are the new stars of a Mother's Day-themed ad for the luxury fashion brand in which they heap praise on one another, while also sharing a number of touching memories from 25-year-old Langley’s childhood.

Mariel, 53, and her daughter are featured in the new video frolicking near a cabin, shooting arrows in the woods and jumping on a trampoline, while exchanging kind words about each other in the voice over, expanding on Langley's statement to the theme of the ad campaign: 'My mom was my first coach.'

Mariel, who has released two memoirs in recent years detailing the awful history of suicide, abuse and alcoholism that has spanned several generations in her famous family, previously claimed that she had made it her life's mission to overcome the 'Hemingway curse'.

Her grandfather Ernest Hemingway committed suicide mere months before Mariel was born and both of her parents, Jack Hemingway and Byra Louise Hemingway, were alcoholics. She has even made claims that her father sexually abused her sisters Margaux and Joan while they were growing up. Supermodel Margaux would later take her own life at 42.

Mariel has since become a a physical and mental health icon, publicly discussing her own struggles with depression and taking a considered, holistic approach to living - one that she has clearly passed on to her daughters.

'Of course my mom's brave': Langley talks about her 53-year-old mother lovingly in the video, saying that her mother was 'my first coach'

In the new ad, both mother and daughter open by talking about the 'love for nature' that Mariel has tried to instill in Langley, which she says 'influences how I go about my life and my art'.

Langley goes on to gush about her mother, stating: 'Of course my mom's brave.'

'She told me I was somewhat magical in my own ways,' she adds. 'And I still hold that with me.'

'Empowering your child is such an important thing to do, I wanted her to know that she was seen,' explains Mariel.

She also describes the joy she feels over seeing her daughter 'be so authentically herself'.

Mariel is also mom to Dree, 27, who works as a fashion model. She isn't seen in the Coach ad, but is mentioned by her younger sibling.

'My mom gave me a Coach bag,' Langley remembers. 'My sister and I fought over it. Dree probably took more of it, but now I have it, and I still have it. So, who's the winner?'

Both daughters are from Mariel's marriage to Stephen Crisman, which ended in 2008.
