Looking for My Mind

I keep looking for my mind, but looking is hard work.
Some folks watching me, I’m sure, consider me a jerk.
If I could find my rightful mind, maybe I could play,
Be lighthearted once again, and laugh the livelong day.
But finding minds ain’t easy; and mine’s been lost so long,
It would take a miracle to right this bitter wrong.

  1. This reminds me of Alzheimer’s. I care for my dad who lived with us. The struggle he felt is in your words. One never knows where alien will take its reader.

  2. Oh, that “If I could find my rightful mind” couplet says it all. Nice work, teach!

  3. Nice one☺

    Much💜love

  4. Oh I know the feeling! This poem made me smile.

  5. Beverly Crawford

On the one hand, this poem made me smile….until someone likened it to Alzheimer’s, and then it made me weep. The magic of words …………….

  6. I agree with Beverly! I thought how cute and lighthearted, then the reality some saw in the words. I have never known anyone with Alzheimer’s, so it never enters my mind.

  7. Sadly as we get older we find that with our memories we have lost almost the same as we have won. The ones that reamain are often from way back in the past but now I cant remember what I did last week!

  8. Lovely piece of serio-comic.

  9. This is quite clever … cheers.

  10. Margaret Bednar

A few ways to interpret this one… I’ll choose the whimsical as Alzheimer’s is too sad.
