The Mandela Effect is when a large group of people share a common memory of something that differs from what is generally accepted to be fact.
Ernest goes to Camp: "Happy Together" no longer played!
I must have watched this movie 30 times as a kid. After Ernest was given poison Ivy as a "get well" gift from the delinquents, they went to cheer him up in his cabin. His turtle Pokey bit him on the nose and wouldn't let go, and the kids sang "Happy together" acapella (a song written by The Turtles, not coincidentally). From there the scene cuts away as the youngest of the kids sings "so how is the weather..." just as the drums kick in from the real song for the chorus "I can't see me loving nobody but you- for all my life". The actual song was played in the movie, without any doubt in my mind.
In fact, I had no idea what the song was at the time and only heard it from the movie. It's was slightly cringe because it was out of context for me as a kid but also catchy and apparently a "hit" song as some point in time. Years later as I'm looking for a clip of "gee I'm glad it's raining", out of curiousity I try to search for the clip of "happy together" and ... nothing shows up!
After watching the movie the only times the song comes up is 1) acapella in the cabin, 2) as part of a background soundtrack thruout the movie and during the attack against the mining corporation, and 3) when camp members are marching together again singing it acapella.
It is certainly worth pointing out that the background track of the chorus makes absolutely no sense unless the real song was at some point played in the movie. Here Amit is referenced as having been played in Ernest goes to Camp: https://books.google.com/books?id=_wdKCgAAQBAJ&pg=PA32&lpg=PA32&dq=ernest+goes+to+camp+happy+together&source=bl&ots=MX1ePCeDjj&sig=ZGDPixXDZgbsouaq0W-vH7tfoBQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj29P_crI7bAhUB8mMKHQDzB9M4ChDoATAHegQIBBAB#v=onepage&q=ernest%20goes%20to%20camp%20happy%20together&f=false But even logic aside, I watched the movie 30 times for crying out loud. It really upsets me when parts of ones past are just stripped away leaving you unable to reexperience a moment you once enjoyed.
From a youtube comments section of "Happy Together" music video where people asked where they first heard the song: https://prnt.sc/jjdlfs
a blog talking about the first time he heard the song: https://prnt.sc/jjdolk
It's possible whoever owns the movie didn't bother getting the home video rights for the song, or that the rights expired at some point and it wasn't worth the cost of renewing. The "No Stairway" joke in Wayne's World hasn't made sense since the theatrical release because of that kind of licensing issue. Movie soundtracks in general are frequently revised, often for the worse, and the average person just doesn't care enough to notice. Movie colors, too, for that matter. So many orange and teal transfers of movies shot before that was even possible, just because it's the current fad and the timing has to be redone when you go back to the negatives anyway, and most people don't care about making it look like the original release prints.
It’s listed in the IMDb soundtrack section so this is probably the answer.

Nope- read carefully. "Performed by the 2nd-chance Kamp Kikakee boys". That's the delinquent kids singing acapella.
I always thought the 'No Stairway' joke was because too many people played Stairway. At least that's how my dad explained it to me.
It is, the intro is easy to learn and it's an old joke that people who work in music stores quickly learn to hate it. In the theatrical version, Wayne actually plays the intro. In the home video version, he plays something generic instead, because they didn't license the song for home video.
Gotcha. Guess it's just been so long since I've seen it.
WOW I've watched that movie so many times and always wondered why he didn't play stairwell, it seemed like an incomplete joke
I agree, this does seem possible.
I always remember it as I'm gee I'm glad it's raining. I've probably seen this movie 100 times (sad, isint it) and I remember the song being played in the movie at times, but this wasn't when it was played.
How are you watching the movie now?
For one I agree with you. And two, am very happy people still watch these movies
Man is a legend. I'm from the UK and his movies only played a few times here so we taped them on VHS. Loved watching as a kid. That troll scared the shit out of me though.
Great someone else remembers. I was in the mood for something lighthearted and actually was pleasantly surprised by all the elements of the movie I didn't catch the first time. Like "Krader" mining corp (mining companies leave behind huge craters, lol). "Eggsaronius" also hit a funny bone. I could have sworn the chef character moved his eyes back and forth way more times as I remember it. Jim's over the top impersonation of "The Hook" also was spectacular. Good times
Wow... For real.
Youre not going crazy, your story is the same as mine. I remember that song in the movie as clear as i can remember anything. I basically only knew that song because of earnest goes to camp. I randomly heard this song tonight, remembered it from earnest goes to camp. I JUST SO HAPPENED to watch earnest goes to camp about a week ago, and when I heard this song, i corelated it to the movie, and then remembered I just watched that movie and didnt reemember the song in it. A quick google search led me to here.
I suspect these guys are right, most likely some kind of licensing issue and no one cared enough to leave it. Makes me want to buy an old VHS lol
