1st August 1863: The Congress of Princes at Frankfurt on Main, gathered to reform the German Confederation. Centre, in white uniform, is Franz Joseph I of Austria, and to his right, King George of Hanover, and second right, Frederick-William, Prince of Hessen -Kassel. Left of Franz Joseph is King Maximillian of Bavaria, and second left, King John of Saxony. Behind Franz Joseph, in civilian dress, is Prince Frederick of the Netherlands. Extreme left in first row is Prince Ernest of Coburg. Extreme right on first row is Crown Prince Karl of Wurttemberg, and second right, is Archduke Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt.
