Encino
Encino is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles in Southern California. Understand[edit]The town was named for the Rancho Los Encinos (Ranch of the Evergreens) that was founded in 1845. Encino is an ethnically diverse neighborhood, with significant Russian, Persian, Armenian, Jewish, and Mexican populations. Seeing Russian, Farsi, Armenian, Hebrew, and Spanish is common. Encino is on the edge of the San Fernando Valley. Half of the neighborhood is in the hills, and half is in the valley. Ventura Boulevard separates these two sides and is the primary commercial street of the neighborhood. Get in[edit]By plane[edit]The closest airport is Hollywood Burbank Airport. However, Los Angeles International Airport [1] (IATA: LAX) (Los Angeles Airport). has many more flight options and is more commonly used. By road[edit]Encino is located along US-101 and I-405. Get around[edit]The Los Angeles Metro bus system extends to Encino, as well as all of the San Fernando Valley. However, as is the case all across Los Angeles, they provide only limited access, as the city is so spread out. Many bus users will find themselves walking significant distances to their destinations. Riding buses will also eat up a lot of time in your day. Sidewalks are generally well paved in Los Angeles, including in Encino. However, because the region is very spread out, you may find yourself walking a lot. If you enjoy a long walk, this may be the city for you. See[edit]Movies at the Encino Town Center. The hills are beautiful, and many high-end homes are situated there. They are worth seeing, particularly if you are a visitor to the Los Angeles area and are not familiar with upscale Los Angeles culture. From high enough up, you can see a view of the entire San Fernando Valley. However, most of the hills have no sidewalk. Walking on these roads is dangerous, as they are hilly, windy, and some cars drive too fast. You should be in a car rather than on foot, especially at night-time. Due to its diverse population, Encino also has an wide variety of places of worship, including various synagogues, Eastern Orthodox churches (Armenian Apostilic among others), and Protestant and Catholic churches. The western side of the neighborhood (including Lindley Avenue) is particularly densely populated with these. Do[edit]Encino is home to the Lake Balboa Park. This is a very large urban park with major roads going through it (including Burbank Boulevard and Balboa Boulevard). Mountain Biking - There are plenty of trails in the Santa Monica Mountains, Verdugo Hills and the various canyons. A great ride starts at the south end of Reseda, or stop part way up and begin at Caberello Canyon. Ride up to dirt Mulholland and go either north or south. If you go south you will see the Nike Site (missiles were stored there during the cold war) or north and ride over to Trippet Ranch, Will Rogers park, Eagle Rock or to the lookout point. Great riding - single track and fire roads. Buy[edit]The Encino Farmer's Market is open on Sunday mornings at 17400 Victory Boulevard. The market is always booming with locals shopping for produce and various other items (including meats, crafts, and food trucks). Eat[edit]Encino is home to many different kinds of exciting cuisine, particularly from the Mediterranean and West Asia. Additionally, as with anywhere in Los Angeles, Mexican food is ubiquitous. Traveling through Encino, you will see that options range widely.
Many chains are also on Ventura Boulevard, including McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, Subway, Domino's Pizza, Starbucks, IHOP, Chili's, The Habit Grill, Panera, California Pizza Kitchen, and Dunkin'. Drink[edit]Sleep[edit]Contact[edit]Stay healthy[edit]The San Fernando Valley in general is known for having higher temperatures. Do not allow yourself to get dehydrated, particularly outdoors. Additionally, the Valley may have more smog than other parts of the city due to its geography. If you have a respiratory issue, take note of the Angeles Air Quality Index (AQI). Hospitals in and around Encino include Encino Hospital Medical Center (16237 Ventura Blvd, Encino, CA), Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center (18321 Clark St, Tarzana, CA 91356), Sherman Oaks Hospital (4929 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403), and Valley Presbyterian Hospital (15107 Vanowen St, Van Nuys, CA 91405). Stay safe[edit]Encino is one of the safer neighborhoods in Los Angeles. However, you should always follow standard urban safety protocols. For example, you would be a fool to enter the Lake Balboa Park at night. Additionally, beware of reckless drivers; many Encino residents, particularly those who live in the hills (southern side of the neighborhood), exit the 101 freeway at high speeds and drive irresponsibly. Additionally, gangs continue to be an issue in Los Angeles, including in Encino. However, this is very unlikely to affect visitors. Always act respectfully to avoid danger and use your common sense.
