Von Amazon abgezockt mit Oliver Paa und Justus
Eigentlich wollten wir uns den Dracula Film aus 2000 angucken, welcher ja mit einem deutschen Darsteller besetzt wurde. Kurz nachdem ich die Leihgebühr auf Amazon gezahlt hab viel uns aber schnell auf das, die einfach einen anderen Film verlinkt haben.
Dracula trifft dabei auf die Kreuzrittern Alina, welche seiner toten Braut extrem ähnlich sieht und er in ihr die Reinkarnation sieht. Die Zeit rennt allerdings, denn Vampirjäger Van Helsing und ihre Schwester sind bereits auf dem Weg, Dracula und sein Vermächtnis aufzuhalten.
Bis auf Jon Voight kennt man hier wirklich weit und breit keine einzige Nase. Das sind alles durch die Bank weg eher drittklassige Darsteller, von denen man noch nie was…
Im falschen Film oder wenn es wohl besser so war. Zusammen mit Film_Sammlung und Justus.
Dracula The Dark Prince - nicht zu verwechseln mit Dark Prince: Dracula - wie unser Film_Sammlung schmerzlich herausfinden musste geht schon in Ordnung. Für das Budget sieht Ausstattung und die Locations doch okay aus. Der Cast gewinnt keinen Oscar macht seine Sache ordentlich (Jon Voigt hat hier noch seine Kriegskasse aufgefüllt, hat aber einen erstaunlich grossen Part). Zuweilen erinnert das alles etwas an akzeptables The Witcher Cosplay. Für mich natürlich in Ordnung.
Die Damen sind hold, der Film relativ kurz und es passiert eigentlich immer etwas. Da verkrafte ich das schwache CGI und die nicht sehr spektakuläre Action.
Haben wir schon schlechter gesehen und für ne Watchparty geht das Produkt klar. Regisseur Pearry Reginald Teo muss sich also für diesen Effort keinesfalls schämen.

All warriors and sword fights is not really what I go for in a Dracula film but it was surprisingly alright. The inside of the castle looked nice but the outside looked like a computer game. A bad one at that. Renfield was a bit of a swine!
Ausstattung und Köstume waren für so eine Produktion ziemlich nice und genrell guckt der sich gut runter.
Die Schnulze war mir mal wieder zu viel und ab der zweiten Hälfte wirken die Kämpfe sehr gestellt, aber an sich will ich mehr von solchem Billig Fantasykram.
Als Dracula Interpretation aber eine Katastrophe.
I don't understand all the hate for this film. It's not historically accurate, for example the real Vlad ambushed by an Ottoman patrol and killed and did not die as shown in the film - but the film is still entertaining.
What was bad about the film: Ilona, Vlad's wife, looks a bit too modern - not as rustic as she should look. Some of the costuming seemed out of place. The acting wasn't that great. The film felt a bit choppy.
What was good about the film: The story, most of the cinematography and some of the battle scenes.
Overall a good watch.

Pearry Teo (sometimes listed as Pearry Reginald Teo) is a Singaporean-born director who has done all his work in the US. Teo first appeared with the SF film The Gene Generation and has remained a genre regular since with the likes of Necromentia, Witchville, Dead Inside, The Curse of Sleeping Beauty, Ghosthunters, The Assent and Shadow Master. He has also written The Ghost Beyond and produced Tekken: A Man Called X/Tekken 2: Kazuya’s Revenge, Strange Blood, Bethany, Stasis and Day of the Dead: Bloodline. Teo passed away in 2023 aged 44.

Eine sich wie die Verfilmung eines sehr schlechten Computerspiels anfühlende Respektlosigkeit, die kostümtechnisch wohl mal im Mittelalter, in der Gegenwart oder auch in der Steinzeit spielt, die von sich aber behauptet, zu Lebzeiten Vlad Draculs angesiedelt zu sein.
Außerdem ist Vlad Dracul eine Art Geralt von Riva, der vor dem Show Down auf einer Art Eisernem Thron sitzt (und sich dieser Parallele wohl auch ziemlich bewusst ist).
Und dann ist da noch Jon Voight als Leonardo(!) van Helsing, der sich wohl nicht entscheiden kann, welchen der ernstzunehmenden vorangegangenen van Helsing-Darsteller er nun eigentlich zu imitieren versucht…
