~~~~~~~
Estelle Eggleston of Memphis passed away May 1, 2002, in Los Angeles, California. She was 90 years old. She was born Dovey Estelle Caro, August 25, 1911, in Marks, Mississippi, the daughter of Edward Daniel Caro and Mary Belle "Dolly" Flynn. She had one brother, Vernon Caro, and an older sister, Annie Lucille Caro, who grew up with her in Marks. Her siblings are now deceased. She hated the name Dovey, and was always called Estelle. She was courted and wed by Thomas Ellett Eggleston in 1938. Tom was from Yazoo City, Mississippi, which is where they lived. The union produced Estelle's only child, a daughter, Estelle Caro Eggleston. Tom remained her husband until he died of a stroke in 1991. Estelle was a Registered Nurse by profession, and lived to comfort and nurture people in need. She worked for years at Kennedy Veterans Hospital. She was a Catholic convert, and a member of St. Anne Church on Highland for half a century. When she retired from nursing, she became a Eucharistic minister, taking Communion to shut-ins in their homes. She was a victim of Alzheimer's disease, and for the past decade, she had gone into decline. Her Memphis home was closed and she had been living in Los Angeles, in a nursing home, close to her daughter, who is now known as Stella Stevens, and her grandson, Andrew Stevens. Estelle also leaves in family, her great-grandson, Samuel Andrew Stevens, and his mother, Robyn Stevens. May she rest in love and peace. There will be a viewing and Rosary at Forest Hill Mortuary, Midtown, 1661 S. Elvis Presley Blvd., on Thursday evening, May 9, at 7 PM. For information please call (name and phone omitted) funeral director. The Funeral Mass will be Friday morning, May 10, at 11 AM at St. Anne Church.
