Douglas Emhoff is the second gentleman of the United States. His wife, Vice President Kamala Harris (D), took office on January 20, 2021. According to the White House, Emhoff's work as second gentlemen will focus on justice, equality, and human rights.[1]

Emhoff worked as an entertainment and commercial lawyer for three decades.[2]

Biography

Emhoff was born in 1964 in Brooklyn, New York. He received a B.A. in communication studies from Cal State Northridge and a J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.[2]

After graduating from law school, he worked as an associate at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and Bingham McCutchen. He became a partner at Belin Rawlings & Badal at the end of the 1990s. In 2000, he formed Whitwell Jacoby Emhoff, which later incorporated its commercial litigation practice into Venable LLP.[2]

Emhoff founded Venable's San Francisco branch. In 2015, he became managing director of Venable's West Coast operations. He also became a partner at DLA Piper in 2017.[2]

Personal

Emhoff was married to film producer Kerstin Mackin from 1992 to 2008. They had two children—Cole and Ella—together. Emhoff married Kamala Harris in 2014.[2]
