How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Great CD to have if you were ever a Tubes fan. A great live theatrical band whose songs were based on comercialism, television, and 80's excess.

San Francisco has always been a musical melting pot and breeding ground for some of the most eclectic musical groups. One of the musical currents in the 70's and early 80's that has been alive and well, and well supported within the Bay Area has been that of campy, genre-bending, musical acts that incorporated theatrics, comedy, performance art, and pop rock. From The Residents and Romeo Void, to Leila and The Snakes, The Tubes, and The Lloyds there was a "scene" that could at one moment be playing 10-minute prog-rock extravaganzas to revved up and stripped down versions of classic doo-wop rock and roll.
The Tubes were one of many bands in the Bay Area that just didn't fit squarely in any record company's catalog. Their stage shows were their trademark. Relying heavily on theatrics, they satirized pop culture while embracing the genre. The live album from their 1978 London tour bridged the long-haired prog rock of the early 70's with the leather-clad punk music of the late 70's. So you have your synthesizer solos that segue into odes to bondage and S&M, and innuendo laden pop rock songs about...what else?...sex, drugs, and all other sorts of rock and roll excess.
For an impressionable teen in the suburbs this album sat squarely between my Yes and Jethro Tull albums and my Sex Pistols and Clash albums. I have to thank my friend Pete Heimlich (aka Pete Meter) for having introduced me to the Tubes when I stayed with him and my brother in San Francisco the summer of 1979. Pete was the bassist for the popular Bay Area band, The Lloyds, and he also let me handle lighting when they played the Fab Mab (Mabuhay Gardens) and introduced me to Brian Eno, Roxy Music, and other similar musical pioneers.
But this live album by The Tubes, while sounding a bit dated today, will always remain fixed in memory as epitomizing the musical melting pot of the Bay Area in the 70s.
