Donating to Wikipedia Tax Deductible? (US)
Hey all!
Still not sure this is the right sub for this kind of question, but I’m trying to make a charitable donation by the end of the year and hoping to make it tax deductible on my 2022 taxes. If I donate the money to Wikipedia (or the Wikipedia Foundation) does that count according to US tax code?
Thanks in advance!

I’m not sure why this didn’t show up for me… but I appreciate the link. Thank you!!
Wikipedia is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so donations made to it are charitable donations under the tax code.
You should note that charitable donations are an itemized deduction, if you do not have sufficient itemized deductions to exceed the standard deduction, your donation will not have any tax benefits.
This is good information to have, thank you!
Yes, but it only makes sense to if you have itemized deductions over the standard deduction.
I’ll make sure I do when I sit down and do my taxes, thank you!
Then it will be too late to make an informed decision. Donate if you wish, but if you want to know if you will save on your taxes, determine now whether you will benefit from itemizing.
Ah yeah you’re right, I meant when I look at my current numbers and figure out before the end of the year. Thanks again!
Oh ok, perfect! You’re welcome!
Be aware the vast majority of US taxpayers come nowhere close.
Yes. Donations to the Wikimedia Foundation are deductible in the U.S.
