This is dedicated to you guys who have asked "But who is the most played character now?". While OrangE did do something along this line in a painstakingly manual way I've used some python and go to get this automated.
Along with answering this question more information (as far as what's documented and allowed) are shown - this covers mostly players, servers and server metadata, regional differences, platforms.
I have also developed this website that shows what is presented in the infographic on a dataset that is always updated: https://dst.resamvi.io/
For anybody that's interested the codebase is here: https://github.com/ResamVi/dontstarve-datavis Python and go on the backend, Vue.js to implement the frontend.
I love to hear your opinion. There is always criticism to be made about the data but I hope I addressed everything so far.

Absolutely! My next idea is to track the changes over time in a timeseries diagram. Wendy and Wigfrid currently seem to swap places a lot and I couldn't imagine the peak Wigfrid gets on the rework

I think because on DST you risk setting people's stuff on fire as Willow. When I play by my self or with regular Don't Starve I use her a lot. I think people just want to avoid being "the jerk who set our base on fire"

Man, I never knew Don't Starve Together had such an appeal to China. I've seen a good batch of Chinese mods, but MAN.
Something that made me sad. Wortox has such a low usage rate. I guess it could be due to the fact that he is a "paid" DLC. On the other had though I was pleasantly surprised that most games played are vanilla instead of modded.

So this is an instantaneous snapshot? What does the data look like when averaged over 24 hours or a week? I imagine it'd make comparisons between countries much more meaningful.
As is, the graphic is comparing the Friday 7:45pm activity of China to the 1:45pm activity of most of Europe, the 7:45am activity of New York, the 4:45am activity of California, etc.
Correct! I addressed this in the forums as well: I have to admit here at first that the work that went into setting up a meaningful and realistic dataset is quite rushed and drawing these conclusions wouldn't quite stand up anywhere in science lol.
As of right now I haven't setup the logic and infrastructure to persist and store long-term data. I've mentioned somewhere else that next up would be handling time-series data to inspect trends. Using relational database does not seem to bode well this task so it is more work than I anticipated and I'll have to study more on this topic.
As of right now every 10 minutes the data is reset (not having to deal with duplicates and old data). So next up would then storing long term data for a better sample size and representation of reality

yeah but spiders are the death of many new players and he also has the ability to eat monster meat
he can make huge spider wars for all the monster meat and spider glands you would ever need. He was how i got through winter before i discovered bunnymen farms, so i’d say he’s very beginner friendly
To be fair, in the other characters everything tries to kill you but pigs. And bunnies sometimes.

This is an excellent graphic, and i love the website for up-to-date info! Thank you for putting in all this hard work - I'm glad it's still up and running three years later.
The data is overall remarkably similar after all this time, with one big exception- vanilla vs molded servers. In your infographic, above, 80% of servers are vanilla. But on the website showing real-time data, it's currently the opposite - 80% of servers are modded. I'd be curious when that switch happened, and why 🤔
