Was released on this date in 1983. Anybody see this one? Dan Aykroyd plays a college professor who thru a convoluted series of events ends up posing as a pimp. Largely stupid, but had some pretty good laughs along the way and it's the movie Aykroyd met Donna Dixon while shooting. Featuring a really young (and fairly attractive) Fran Drescher without that annoying accent and Lynn Whitfield as two of the call girls he's helping out, and TK Carter as his sidekick. A promised sequel was teased at the end of the movie and parodied the previous year's Wrath of Khan (The Doctor's nemesis was a ruthless Madame who went by "Mom"). Hard to believe he did something like this in the same year he had Trading Places, for my money the best comedy ever.

I actually saw it back in the late 90s on cable TV and loved it, but then later on when I re-watched the whole thing on DVD, I had to admit to myself, it was not exactly a great comedy. However, I did still find several parts of it to be very lowbrow crazy-stupid comedy and where Aykroyd really goes out with hilarious scenes and dresses up as this colorful alter-ego and gets doooown with his people and all. Great soundtrack, some incredible looking women too, and, well I still have the DVD, so it is not all that bad.

What was with all the "let's be pimps" flicks in the 80s? Night Shift, Risky Business and this.

I dislike it immensely. Incredibly stupid, unfunny, annoying and completely unlikable movie. Dan Aykroyd's performance is cringe-inducing.
Dan Aykroyd was great on SNL, but he was poorly utilized in movies imo. There are a few exceptions of course, such as Ghostbusters, The Couch Trip, Neighbors and Trading Places.

I saw it when it came on TV. Not a timeless comedy classic by any means, but it was cute.

I recall Night Shift being very popular, it just looked to stupid to me at the time. Is it any good? I am afraid I do not know since I have never seen either. I hope someone else reads this and helps you out on this one.

I am not a fan of Night Shift, but it is worth watching depending on how much of a Michael Keaton fan you are. He is the only reason to watch it imo. It starts off alright, but it gets less entertaining and less funny the longer it goes on.

I quite like the dark humor aspect behind the setting, with the morgue being used as a knocking shop, but I just recall at the time it came out, comedies weren't really my port of call then. It was horrors and strong drama's and Henry Winkler has never held much of an appeal factor for me. I may enjoy it now. If I see it around at an op/thrift shop on dvd for about a buck, I may nab it.
Just to digress, have you seen D.C. Cab and what are your thoughts?
Not a fan at all. It just isn't my sort of movie. I am very picky when it comes to comedy and horror.
