2 Sentences That Perfectly Sum Up The Meaning Of True Love

Beautiful.

One of the best feelings in the world is, without question, love. We fall into it, seek it out, cherish it, share it -- it's an experience and expression that everyone can understand, regardless of who they are, what language they speak or where they live. Yet, for as universal as love is, it's also such a complex, powerful emotion that it can be hard to define -- but not so for Wintley Phipps.

Phipps is a renowned pastor and gospel singer who has been married to his college sweetheart for 39 years. Oprah has always viewed Phipps, also the founder of U.S. Dream Academy, as a spiritual compass of sorts, turning to him for prayer and counsel. He's also responsible for one of her favorite definitions of love.

As Phipps explains during his interview on"SuperSoul Sunday," there are two definitions for real, genuine love:

Love is when you choose to be at your best when the other person is not at their best.

Love is when what you want is never important. But what the other person needs and wants is always paramount.

If you truly love someone, both of these definitions will ring true. It's not meant to be easy, Phipps says, but the reward is infinite when you can look past the initial layers of romance, passion and wonder to recognize something even deeper.

"The second one is a lot more difficult," Phipps says of these definitions. "That's a hard one to do, but that's what true love is."

Phipps' full interview airs on this weekend's "SuperSoul Sunday," airing Sunday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. ET on OWN.
