Deep Purple – The Painter Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

The Painter Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Painter, come colour up my life
Oh painter, come colour up my life
Take away the misery
Take away the strife

[Verse 2]
Writer, write me out a play
Writer, make the meaning gay
Oh I don't need a podium
Just give me words to say

[Guitar Solo]

[Organ Solo]

[Verse 3]
Singer, let me sing a song
Oh, singer, let me sing a song
You don't have to worry
'Cause singer, you can sing along

About

Genius Annotation

“The Painter” is the second and last part of the fourth track to Deep Purple’s self-titled album. “Fault Line” is the first part of that fourth track.

On the album’s tracklist, “Fault Line” is numbered 4 (a) while “The Painter” is 4 (b).

“The Painter” is a straightforward yet effective rock song with two verses, then a fast-paced guitar solo followed by an equally dynamic organ one, concluded by a third verse and coda. It was recorded live all at once with no further additional parts.

This song is one of only three (with Shades Of Deep Purple’s “Prelude: Happiness” and this record’s “Why Didn’t Rosemary?”) to be credited to all five members of Deep Purple’s first lineup (usually dubbed “mk 1”).
