Here’s how tall Daniel Radcliffe is. British actor Daniel Radcliffe found fame playing the titular boy wizard in the Harry Potter movie franchise. He was just 11 years old when he started shooting the first film – Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone – alongside his co-stars and fellow child actors Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. He basically grew up on the Harry Potter set and by the time the eight-film-strong series came to an end in 2011 with Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Radcliffe was still only at the tender age of 22.

Even during the Harry Potter films Daniel Radcliffe has worked hard to shed his child actor image. In 2007 he took on the role of Alan Strang in a West End revival of Peter Shaffer’s play Equus – a role which required him to appear completely nude on stage – while his first post-Harry Potter film was spooky period horror The Woman In Black. His other post-Potter roles have similarly been about as far from the boy wizard as he can get, including playing beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings and flatulent corpse Manny in Swiss Army Man.

Although Daniel Radcliffe has a lot of lead roles under his belt, the actor revealed in a 2014 interview with Vox that he’s often told that he’s “not a typical male lead.” Radcliffe thinks this is because he’s shorter than the majority of male movie leads, standing at just five feet five inches tall. He doesn’t think his height has held him back when it comes to nabbing film roles, however, and cites fellow relatively short actors Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise as proof an actor doesn’t have to be a towering typical alpha male to have a great acting career.

The Gamechangers Daniel Radcliffe

That’s not to say his height hasn’t impacted his work to some extent. While promoting his role as Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser in 2015 docudrama The Gamechangers, Radcliffe confessed certain scenes required him to stand on a box to appear taller which he joked made his co-star Joe Dempsie look tiny.

While Daniel Radcliffe seems pretty happy with how tall he is, he admitted in a 2015 interview with Playboy that he feels his height would hold him back from taking on one role he’d love to play – that of an American football player. As a huge NFL fan, Radcliffe described that as his “one legitimate gripe” but there are quite a few not-so-tall football players out there. Trindon Holliday, Tarik Cohen and Jacquizz Rogers are all his height or a smidge taller so Radcliffe playing an NFL player isn’t totally out of the realm of possibility.
