OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — On Wednesday, a Newton man was arrested on charges of possession with intent to disseminate child pornography, among other charges, according to the Ozark Police Department.

James C. Abshire, 59, was arrested on charges of possession with intent to disseminate child pornography, attempted electronic solicitation of a child and receiving stolen property.

Abshire’s arrest comes after an investigation took place in October where information was given to the Ozark police about alleged inappropriate behavior Abshire did while being a counselor at Arch Counseling.

The information received alleged Abshire attempted to solicit an underage teen.

Complaints were also received claiming Abshire inappropriately touched an underage child, according to the press release.

The information and complaints then led police to perform a search warrant on Abshire’s residence, where a computer allegedly containing child pornography was found.

A stolen firearm was also located at his residence.

Abshire was then placed in the Dale County Jail. He was released on a $50,000 bond Wednesday night.

This is still an ongoing investigation. Stay with WDHN News for updates.
