At Katie Rogers' Instagram-friendly Uptown salon, you’ll find no adhesive extensions.

If you’re looking at a beautiful, bodacious, bouncy head of hair, chances are you’re also looking at thousands of dollars of meticulously hand-placed extensions. We made the rounds to discover the best local salons to expand your hair horizons.

For mermaidcore:

The Mermaid SEAlon | 4301 Belmont Ave.

Tired of the stringy wholesale extensions used by most salons, Katie Rogers made her own with twice the hair. She now delivers double the dimension in half the time at her Instagram-friendly Uptown salon.

For the ‘burbs:

Tangerine Salon | Multiple locations

Owners Janet and Brandon Hensley opened their flagship salon in Coppell in 2005; their Frisco location in The Star District is the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ sponsoring salon.

For the picky:

Yummy Hair Extensions | 19009 Preston Rd., Ste. 114

In-store shoppers are offered Champagne while they peruse the countless options with the guidance of an expert associate. “Dallas women are not afraid to change their look, and I love that,” owner Yummie O. says. “They love to play with hair, and they just love it big.”

For the boys:

Bigger Better Hair Salon | 1001 Ross Ave.

Owner Brandon Stephens has always specialized in extension work; in fact, it’s all he’s ever done. And when he noticed a huge oversight of one of the city’s most hair-needy demographics, he realized he had found his niche. He now offers semi-permanent hair systems for men, from clip-ins to tape extensions to microbead-attached toppers in shades from black to platinum blond. “I want to give you the fullest version of what’s natural to you,” he says. “Your hair, just bigger and better.”
