Stopped into the Cultural Arts Center (downtown, near the Bicentennial Park fountains) on a sweltering afternoon to get out of the heat. It’s really a pretty cool (no pun intended) place! Small art exhibit on the first floor but lots of big studios for classes in weaving, ceramics, painting and more!

I liked the jumbled pic of Kirk and Spock called “Transporter Error”. They also had “pictures” called “Peripheral Vision”. They were a grid of square wooden blocks with the image painted on the sides of the blocks. So if you stood back and to the side you could see the image. But the tops of the blocks were painted white. So if you stood directly in front you couldn’t see the image. The *weird* thing was when I tried to take a picture straight on to show this the camera still saw the image! I don’t know how.

Free fun! The Cultural Arts Center has revolving art exhibitions on the main floor and offers classes and workshops upstairs throughout the year.

Parking can be a challenge. Street meters are your best bet. It is a lovely place to end or begin your stroll of the outdoor Scioto Mile. No restaurant on premise. Bathrooms and water fountain available.

This is one of the best places to experience the arts in the city of Columbus. From their gallery shows to their classes it's a top notch experience.

The Cultural Arts Center in Columbus, Ohio, is singled out as Central Ohio's premier visual arts center, a hub of artistic activity and inspiration. Located at 139 West Main Street, overlooking Bicentennial Park, it is part of the city's Scioto Mile tourist district. The 38,500-square-foot space offers adult art classes, exhibitions, workshops, tours, lectures and gifts. Open from 1 to 4 and 7 to 10 on Monday, 9 to 4 and 7 to 10 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 9 to 4 on Friday and Saturday, it is a combination of two art galleries and teaching space, primarily for visual artists and crafters. The space also includes a ceramics lab in the basement and painting and weaving labs on the upper floors. Established in 1976, the brick Italianate building is one of the largest and and most welcoming art galleries in central Ohio and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Two current exhibitions are by Carmen Ostermann in the main gallery and by Annie Chrissy Burley in the loft gallery. Ostermann is an artist who investigates the intricacy of ecosystems and the impact of environmental destruction through delicate hand built ceramics and fiber sculptures. Burley uses the aesthetic of animation to explore themes of representation of the image-baring nature of African-American women through her own beliefs. For someone who is prone to traditional and conventional oil paintings, this artwork is highly educational and stimulating.

The Cultural Arts Center is the best place in the city to take art classes. CAC offers a wide variety of classes included, but not limited to painting, sculpture jewelry making, weaving. The instructors are great and the price is unbelievable affordable.

My husband and I enjoyed viewing the art galleries at the center. They have two galleries you can view. They also offer a variety of art classes that are inexpensive. We are thinking about taking one or two at some point! Great place to spend some time while in Columbus.

always great to visit this place during the columbus arts festival. galleries upstairs, a great garden area that was unfortunately being used by a VIP reception, and workshops on the lower levels where you can see artists in action. Onlu wish I lived closer to take more advantage of this place.
