Five Cornell Track and Field Alumni Compete At the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon

ATLANTA, Ga. - Five former Cornell track and cross country athletes attempted to qualify for the marathon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics this weekend in Atlanta.
 
Jonathan Phillips '15 was the top finisher among former Big Red athletes, setting a marathon-best by half a minute in finished at 2:17:51. In the 175-runner field, Phillips' time was good for 40th place.
 
Four former Cornell women competed in the Olympic Trial race with a total of 390 runners. 
 
Katie Kellner '13 finished first out of the four with a 57th-place finish. Her 2:41:42 finish was less than a minute shy of her marathon best. 
 
Natalie Gingerich Mackenzie '04 closed her trials attempt in 2:49:57 for 119th while Stephanie Pancoast '10 crossed the finish line in 2:49:57 (222nd) and Claire DeVoe '16 finished in 3:06:26 (373rd).
 
The top six runners - top-three women and top-three men - qualified for the 2020 Olympics. Galen Rupp, Jacob Riley, and Abdi Abdirahman will represent the United States on the men's side with Aliphine Tuliamuk, Molly Seidel, and Sally Kipyego running for the women.
