Hello fellow monarchists! I wanted to share some thoughts with you. I am from Serbia and a constitutional monarchist.
I think that one positive thing that happened to monarchies in the past 200 years is that they now see themselves as servants of the people instead of people serving them. I feel like throughout history only a few monarchs saw themselves as this, most felt that they had the divine right and wisdom to do whatever they wanted, be it good or bad. The changes in politics shifted so that even a monarch that would have been bad or selfish in the past is now reminded that he is only a servant of his people.
I like to think monarchy is a pact between a dynasty and their people, yes you can live in a palace and lead a life of luxury, but in turn you have no freedom to do as you wish, you are taught to lead by example and serve your people.
I don’t know if any other countries had this, but the official title of the modern kings of Serbia was “By the Grace of God and the will of the People, King of Serbia”. The second part is just as important as the first.
