Biography

Conrad Koder was born in the tiny village of Tailfingen, which is part of modern day Gaufelden-Tailfingen in Wurttemberg, Germany. He was baptized in the church there on Sept. 14, 1713. He is the son of [[Koder-28|Conrad Koder II] and Agatha Gauss.

Conrad occupation was a taylor (tailor).

Conrad arrived in America on the ship NANCY and took the required oaths at the Philadelphia, Pa courthouse along with his father on 9/16/1751. His wife Anna Maria Mayer and children, who were all under the age of 16, accompanied him but were not named on the ship list (List 168C).

They settled in Hilltown Twsp near Quakertown, Bucks Co, PA where on 3/21/752 he purchased a 111 acre farm lying partly in Hilltown Twsp and partly in Rockhill Twsp.

Conrad and his wife were sponsors for the baptisms of several of her grandchildren at the Tohickon Union Church near Keelersville until at least 5/1787, which was about 6 miles from Quakerstown.

Conrad sold his farm in Hilltown Twsp on 4/5/1790 and he and his family moved to Plainfield Twsp, Northampton Co, PA where they lived until his death.

They were recorded in the 1790 in Plainfield Township.

2 males >16 -* Conrad Koder II and Conrad Koder III
4 males <16 -* Conrad IV, Philip, Jacob and Martin
9 females -* Anna Mary, Maria Catherine, Anna Mary, Elizabeth, Catherine, Christena, Magdalena, Mariah, Barbara.
* family members that were unmarried at the time.

Although son Conrad had 2 more kids between 1788 and 1792 no record of them being baptized has been found. The Tohickon Union Church was about 35 miles away from Plainfield Twsp.

Conrad's Will was dated April 2,1793 and shows he was still living in Plainfield Twp at that time. In his Will he provides for his wife Anna Mary, daughters Catherine Elizabeth, Agatha a wife of Philip Lessig, and Catherine, relict of Martin Conrad, and his son Conrad Coder.

His exact date of death is not recorded, but it was between the 4/2 date of the Will and 5/21/1793 went the Will was presented to the Northampton Co Court.

The burial location of Conrad is unknown as no headstone has been found. As he lived in Plainfield Township, as shown in his Will it is quite likely that he was buried in Plainfield Township in a cemetery or on the land they were living on at the time.
