Meridian Waste became the City’s solid waste hauler on Feb. 1, 2024.

If you are a resident and your old Waste Management (WM) carts have not been picked up yet, please email the City at cityhall@oaklandmo.org. Note: the carts WM picked up were only those with WM's name on them. City of Oakland carts or those with no name or some other name will not be picked up by WM.

If you have a "City of Oakland" recycling cart that you want to convert for use as a "Yard Waste" cart, please email CustomerCareMO@MeridianWaste.com or call 314-291-3131 to request yard waste stickers. If, however, you have a “City of Oakland” cart that you no longer wish to keep, please email CustomerCareMO@MeridianWaste.com or call 314-291-3131 to schedule a pickup of those carts.

Yard Waste Carts. Residents can elect to receive a yard waste cart from Meridian or can choose to use the City of Oakland carts previously used for recycling by requesting stickers from Meridian by email at CustomerCareMO@MeridianWaste.com or call 314-291-3131. To avoid delivery fees, residents must contact Meridian Waste by March 31 to elect which yard waste cart they will use. After March 31, Meridian will charge a delivery fee for any extra carts. Residents must use Meridian carts for trash and recycling but may use City of Oakland carts for yard waste with stickers provided by Meridian, and paper bags also may be used. Yard waste pickup will be limited to a maximum combination of 10 paper yard waste bags, bundles or carts approved by Meridian per service.

Missed Pick Ups. Please call Meridian directly at 314-291-3131 if you have experienced a missed pickup or want to schedule pickups of Bulky Items and White Goods. When you call that number, 314-291-3131, please give the representative your address and identify that you are a resident of Oakland, MO.

Additional services and details. Additional carts and services are available to residents who want them, but individual charges may need to be paid in advance since the City is paying only for one trash, one recycling and one yard waste cart. City Overview

Oakland, arguably one of St. Louis County’s best-kept secrets, is a small fourth class city of approximately 1550 residents. Its 7.5 miles of tree-lined streets are nestled between Webster Groves to its east, Crestwood to its south, Kirkwood to its west, and Glendale to its north.

Oakland is a community of great architectural diversity. Not only will you find homes designed by such modern day architects as Harris Armstrong, Robert Schutt and Paul Marti (all of whom are former Oakland residents) but also turn of the century houses and arts and crafts-styled cottages. Oakland has a fascinating history, explored in the book Oakland: A History of the People &Their Homes and summarized here.

Oakland is primarily a residential community, but within its city limits you will find Westborough Country Club, Ursuline Academy, a private girls’ high school, Bethesda Dilworth, one of the largest long term care facilities in Missouri, Webster Groves Christian Church and Oak Bend Library, a branch of St. Louis County Library.  It is also home to Pedego St. Louis, an Oakland family-owned electric bicycle business located next to Grant’s Trail.

You will also find three city parks. Loewnau Park is located on the corner of Sappington Road and Oakland and is named for Adolph Loewenau, Oakland’s former longtime city clerk. Backstoppers Park of Oakland is located at the trailhead of Grant’s Trail, part of the Gravois Greenway and is named for the non-profit organization that supports families of fallen first responders.  Minturn Park, centered on Gravois Creek in the north end of town, features the oft-photographed Paul and Audie Marti bridge. City parks provide wonderful green spaces within our community.
