Newton, North Carolina, in Catawba county, is 28 miles N of Gastonia, North Carolina (center to center) and 37 miles NW of Charlotte, North Carolina.The city is in the Hickory - Morganton - Lenoir area.

Newton History

In 1845, Newton became the county seat of Catawba County, which was founded in 1842. The city was officially incorporated in 1855. It was named in honor of Isaac Newton Wilson, son of the legislator who proposed the bill to establish Catawba County. The city was selected as a finalist by the National League of Cities and CH2M HILL for the Awards for Municipal Excellence in 2006.
