What travelers are saying
- Retriever32Winston Salem, NC182 contributionsWe were guided by my son who took us on the Forest Service Road(via Globe Mountain Road and Brown Mountain Beach) to Wilson’s Creek Bridge and the ghost town of Mortimer N.C., we first stopped just over the scenic old one way bridge and trekwd down to the creek where my son and son in law tried to entice some trout left over from the delayed harvest . It was a beautiful and scenic cool mountain water flowing briskly over smooth river rocks and a great place to stop. Now on another 6 miles up the rock switchback road( 4 wheel drive ) to the head of a trail called “Hunt Fish Trail” which leads you 1 miles straight down to Hunt Fish Falls, a 50 foot beauty. The trail is described as moderate and my son and his wife took our 15 month old granddaughter down in their arms and I would say “it is all you want” in a moderate; remember you have to come back up! The area was not crowded as the drive of one hour up a rock switchback scares away most day hikers. The swimming hole at the bottom had 60 degree chilly clear water and another beautiful 20 foot spillover fall. This is truly a wilderness, with no cell service , when you have made it back up to the small parking area, treat yourself to a cold beer on the tailgate! Then on your drive out be sure to stop at Betsy’s old country store and fly shop; Friday is hot dog day! Shop and order your dogs all the way with a old school bottle of Sundrop or Nehi Orange. Bruce the owner may be there and be prepared to be engaged in a story or two! of course, say hello to Rocky the pure bred Rottweiler . You may want to check out the cabin for rent and the “trout pond”. Also learn the “ghost town history “ of Mortimer an old Cherokee summer hunting grounds and later a logging community destroyed by a flood in 1915.
If you are feeling really adventurous , head up to the headwaters trail of Wilson’s Creek which is known as Rough Ridge Trail on the BRP, a popular trail that ends at 5000 feet. We completed that .06 miles up and back the next day so we went from the headwaters to the gorge . Trail is pretty easy, very rocky with awesome overlooks and spectacular views this is a “must do” trail and will take you about 90 minutes up and back.Written August 15, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I wish the trail was surrounded by trees for a nice shaded cool walk, with the vibe of being outdoors. I was thinking a row of cherry blossom trees or some colorful tree that would give the people proper shade and some color, if you enjoy taking photos. My favorite place to walk nonetheless.Written June 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- IslandzGirlGainesville, FL1,130 contributionsWe have driven past their sign several times and finally had time to stop. It was interesting to learn about 6 generations of Lenoirs from revolutionary war through the civil war. And how they contributed to the settlement of N Carolina and surrounding areas. The volunteers have done a great job preserving this piece of history.Written September 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joan MGastonia, NC40 contributionsFlowering trees and shrubs are abundant, expect lots of color when blooms open. Ducks and turtles live at the pond, so soothing to watch them paddle around. Make sure to walk up the path to the grotto-like area. Kudos to the city of Lenoir for providing and maintaining such a beautiful area!Written March 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Heather O3 contributionsAmazing! Fabulous wine in a perfect setting. We happens to stop by in a sunny afternoon. They had live music outdoors on their deck area and a food truck. The owner’s were very helpful and attentive. It’s not often that I really like many wines at a local winery. This place had many offerings that were all amazing. It may have something to do with the small batches. I had to purchase a case to take home all my favorites. Definitely worth the stop. “Family owned and argued over since 2014” according to their t-shirts. 😊Written March 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Retsy LNokomis, FL19 contributionsThis is an old house converted into an Arts Council. The majority of the space is dedicated to art show rooms. The space is very professionally designed and laid out.
There is a nice show room of local artists wares for sale. The second floor is only accessible by stairs, which I was able to do since there was a good hand rail. I would definitely go back!Written August 29, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lew1 contributionTerrible place to shop. Would not consider a return of a broken item that left the store. I was calm and sincere in the purchase and in the return , When the item was discovered broken. The owner got irate with me you told me never to come to the store again. I finally had to tell him to go do himself I'm 71 years old and this is never has happened to me. It's not the $37
It's the principle. Please , do not shop there.Written August 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - duffey3700Richmond, VA2,615 contributionsVery cool antique shop. Well organized and clean, no musty smells. Lots of "stuff" to look at and the items we looked at had reasonable prices. Young lady who was working there was very friendly and helped us several times getting items from higher shelves. Great place to spend an hour or so just looking around. We'll definitely stop in the next time we are in the area and hope to find some more goodies to buy!!Written July 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
