Some superheroes resolve conflicts by talking through them to find a resolution or simply brainstorming a non-violent solution. Others handle any and every problem with their fists. Hulk is one of those other superheroes. The Hulk's entire schtick is that he throws a fit like an infant who doesn't get his way, and more often than not, the Hulk gets his way when he angrily topples an entire city.

That kind of angry energy doesn't often leave room for teamwork, but teamwork is not always essential for the Hulk when he is strong enough to finish battles all by himself. However, in times where he cannot finish an enemy off all by himself and actually does need help, there have been some gracious heroes willing to oblige him.

10 Won By Himself: When He Defeated His Father In The 2003 Film

Eric Bana And Nick Nolte In Hulk 2003

In the climax of the 2003 blockbuster Hulk picture directed by Oscar winner Ang Lee, the title character took on his own father, when Papa Banner (played by Nick Nolte), who has gained some absorption powers of his own, becomes obsessed with taking his own son's power to defeat his enemies.

During the battle, the Hulk obliges him, but this power proves to be a curse more than a blessing for David Banner, who becomes so overwhelmed with the power of the big green giant that it kills him.

9 Needed Help: When The Grandmaster Had To Intervene In Thor: Ragnarok

Thor vs Hulk in Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok saw the title character and the Incredible Hulk indulge in a long-anticipated rematch to their encounter from the first Avengers movie. Taking place in the Grandmaster's Contest of Champions, the two old friends are forced to fight.

To the surprise of many, Thor not only takes the upper hand, but he also becomes engulfed with lightning. It looks as if he's moments away from finishing the fight as the victor, but in order to ensure the Hulk's own victory, The Grandmaster rigs the fight so that the Hulk is the victor once he makes Thor pass out.

8 Won By Himself: When He Punched Out Sentry In World War Hulk

Hulk vs Sentry World War Hulk

The events of Planet Hulk by Greg Pak and John Romita Jr. depict what happens when The Illuminati - a group of superheroes helmed by Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Doctor Strange, and Black Bolt - exile the Hulk into outer space in a move that kills his pregnant wife.

The sequel World War Hulk depicts the title character returning to unleash chaos on his betrayers. Sentry hails down attempting to save the day, but their evenly matched fight manages to do more harm than good as Sentry's overdose on energy nearly wipes out Manhattan. Thankfully, Hulk is able to knock him out in a final punch to stop it before it happens.

7 Needed Help: When He Destroyed Onslaught's Physical Form With Phoenix's Influence

Hulk Punches Onslaught

Encapsulated using the darkest psyches within both Professor Xavier and Magneto, Onslaught is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe. So much so that he swatted the X-Men and Avengers away like flies all at once.

One last hope was The Hulk, after Jean Grey (aka Phoenix) used her powers to suppress his Bruce Banner personality so that The Incredible One could descend into an unrelenting, primal rage against Onslaught. His battle with Onslaught is so chaotic that it both separates Hulk and Banner by the fight's end and destroys Onslaugh's physical form. He's reduced to pure energy that the rest of the heroes dispose of. Although Hulk beat him with his bare hands, he wouldn't have reached his full rage potential without Jean Grey.

6 Won By Himself: When World War Hulk Beat A Weakened Juggernaut

world-war-hulk-juggernaut

If fans had to pick a hero or villain who might be the Hulk's most frequent adversary, it might be the Juggernaut. The two gargantuan behemoths have traded as many wins against each other as they've traded blows, almost as if they simply take turns beating each other in fights. They are just that much of an even match.

One of their most notable fights was not as much of a fight as it was a beat down. In the aforementioned World War Hulk, the two met again, but this time, since Juggernaut was already in a weakened state, Hulk beat him with ease.

5 Needed Help: When He Stopped Chameleon With Spider-Man

panel from marvel team-up #27

The Chameleon is an underrated villain and often one who is tough to beat due to his ability to perfectly match someone else's appearance. The Hulk and Spider-Man certainly learned that the hard way when they came face to face with the shapeshifter.

Marvel Team-Up #27 by Len Wein and Jim Moody focuses on Chameleon impersonating Spider-Man to break his friends out of jail and tricking Hulk into thinking he's helping his own friend, Rick Jones. This puts the heroes in conflict with each other, but when Spidey finally reveals who the imposter Jones really is, he and Hulk team up to stop him.

4 Won By Himself: When He Hit Red Hulk When He Least Expected It

Hulk is often always noted for his brute force and strength, but one attribute of his that never gets mentioned is the quick savvy adopted from his Bruce Banner alter ego. Such savvy was on full display in Hulk #7 by Jeff Loeb and Ed McGuinness when he takes on the Red Hulk.

While the green Hulk's strength is supplied by his own anger, the Red Hulk becomes stronger whenever he comes in contact with radiation. Since the OG Hulk is a walking, talking gamma-ray, it looked like Red Hulk had the upper hand, but the original giant merely was buying his time until he caught the Red Hulk off-guard with one final knockout shot.

3 Needed Help: When He Tossed Gladiator Into A Nuclear Reactor

Hulk vs Gladiator, Gladiator shoots hole in Hulk's chest

Readers who are most familiar with more modern comics and movies from Marvel probably have never heard of Gladiator. In his heyday, Gladiator proved to be one of the Hulk's greatest adversaries, particularly thanks to an issue of Incredible Hulk Annual 1997 by Chris Cooper and Jeff Rebner.

In it, Gladiator and Hulk fight to the death. In its final panels, the Gladiator uses his heat ray vision to burst a hole through Hulk's chest, just barely missing his heart. Before he could deliver a final killing blow, Hulk uses his hand to reflect Gladiator's beams right back at him and throwing him into a nuclear reactor.

2 Won By Himself: When He Finally Beat Thanos As A Zombie

zombie hulk vs zombie thanos in marvel zombies 3

More often than not, Thanos is able to dispose of The Hulk rather quickly whenever they are laced in combat. Even in the movies, more specifically in Avengers: Infinity War, The Mad Titan is able to make short work of The Incredible One. Surprisingly, the roles are reversed when they lock up after their deaths.

In Marvel Zombies 2, the five-issue mini-series sequel to Marvel Zombies written by Robert Kirkman with art by Sean Phillips, Zombie Thanos squares up with Zombie Hulk, disputing over the latter eating more than everybody else is allowed. Enraged at the accusation, Hulk makes short work of Thanos this time.

1 Needed Help: When He Joined The Avengers Vs. Loki

The orignal Avengers battling Loki on the cover of Avengers number 1

Both the comic origin story and the movie MCU origins of the Avenger's squad are similar in that the teammates are - in many ways - manipulated into conflict by Loki before deciding to put aside their difference to stop the master manipulator's grander scheme.

However, it is the comic version written by Stan Lee and penciled by Jack Kirby that puts Hulk in deeper peril. The comics depict Loki framing Hulk to have caused a rampage against a bridge when he tried to save him. Hulk is overwhelmed by the superheroes trying to capture him to the point that he goes into hiding as "Mechano" at the circus. Thankfully, Thor is able to help clear Hulk's name upon suspecting Loki's meddling and the heroes wind up becoming allies with Hulk.
