Heights Special Police Unit Makes $100,000 Drug Bust

The Chicago Heights Community Policing Unit made two arrests and recovered cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy after an undercover investigation.

recovered an estimated $100,000 in illegal drugs last week, according to a press release from the .

Wednesday, Aug. 8, police executed a search warrant at 828 N. Highland Drive, where they recovered about 68 grams of cocaine, 11 pounds of cannabis and 24 ecstasy pills. 

Police arrested David Abbruzzese and Terance Brown, both 26 years old, and charged them with multiple counts of unlawful possession of controlled substances and cannabis, according to the release.

The arrests were made as the result of an undercover investigation conducted by the department's Community Policing Unit, according to Police Chief Charles A. Guiliani Jr.

“There’s danger in the execution of any search warrant," Guiliani said. "I am extremely proud of the commitment to duty and the bravery these officers demonstrated. Due to their efforts, the drugs that were designated for our streets are now in our evidence room.”

Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez commended Guiliani and the police department for the drug bust. 

“The sooner our police department is made aware of criminal activity, the faster it can be eradicated from our community," Gonzalez said in the release. "I applaud their determined, on-going efforts in keeping our city safe.”

The release noted that Gonzalez has increased community policing to combat drugs and gangs.
