2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Interior Review

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe has a high-end cabin with first-rate materials and contemporary styling. The first two rows of seats offer ample seating space, though the third row is on the small side. The Tahoe has the latest tech, and its MyLink infotainment system is easy to use. Many rivals have more cargo space than the Tahoe.

Scorecard

  • Interior 8.0
  • "The materials are overwhelmingly upscale, and the controls are easy to find and figure out." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Inside, more colors and soft-touch materials form a thoroughly modern dash and center console." -- Autotrader (2016)
  • "The level of refinement is every bit as good as in GM's latest full-size pickups (which is to say luxury-car-like), and there's usable storage everywhere we looked -- great for stashing Apple iPads, wallets, kids' toys, dog food and, in one instance, a pair of bamboo shrimp for a tropical fish tank." -- Autoweek (2015)

Seating

In standard configuration – front bucket seats and second- and third-row bench seats – the 2018 Tahoe seats eight in three rows. A front bench seat is available, which brings the seating capacity to nine, while optional second-row bucket seats reduce seating to seven. Cloth upholstery and a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat come standard, while leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and 12-way power-adjustable front seats are optional.

The cabin is quiet thanks to ample noise insulation, and outward visibility is adequate. The front seats are comfortable, with ample adjustments. The second row is roomy, and the seatback reclines. The seats can't slide forward or backward like those in some competitors, however. Like most 3-row SUVs, the Tahoe has cramped third-row seats.

The Tahoe's LATCH system, which lets you securely install child safety seats, includes an upper tether on each second- and third-row seats, along with lower anchors on the second-row outboard seats. All Tahoe models have a rear-seat reminder, which prompts you to check the rear seats for children, pets, or belongings before you exit the vehicle.

  • "Adults will wish the second row adjusted fore and back, not just for seatback angle. The third row can handle adults but is best for kids." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Inside the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, there's a wealth of space for passengers in the first two rows of seats, and materials quality is above average for the class. Despite its size, visibility is decent, and the standard rear parking sensors and rearview camera reduce the stress of maneuvering in tight spaces." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "Chevy's sound-deadening efforts have paid off. There's a bit of wind rush from around the A-pillars, but the Tahoe keeps the outside world out as effectively as does a luxury sedan. Tire and road noise are distant." -- Car and Driver (2015)

Interior Features

The Chevy Tahoe comes standard with tri-zone automatic climate control, an 8-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, satellite radio, USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a Wi-Fi hot spot with OnStar 4G LTE, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera. Available features include a 10-speaker Bose surround-sound system, navigation, push-button start, wireless charging for smartphones, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, a safety alert seat, low-speed emergency braking, front parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, lane change alert, and rear cross traffic alert.

The standard MyLink infotainment system is user-friendly thanks to crisp graphics, fast responses, and straightforward menus. The inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto lets you access some of your phone's apps right on the touch screen. Pairing your phone with the system is a simple affair. On the downside, adjusting some audio settings requires you to use both physical controls and the touch screen, which is a bit inconvenient. The buttons and knobs on the center stack are all easy to reach. The built-in Wi-Fi hot spot lets you connect up to seven devices.

  • "Chevy's MyLink infotainment system is one of the easiest to use and quicker-responding systems available. With detailed graphics and an intuitive 8-inch touch-screen interface, the system offers onboard 4G LTE Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, voice activation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. An easily navigated Navigation system is also available." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "… the MyLink color touchscreen is one of the brightest and most user-friendly infotainment systems we've experienced." -- Autotrader (2017)
  • "Gauges and controls -- which can be reconfigured on upper trim levels -- are easy to read and intuitive to use. The graphics on the central 8-inch display screen are crisp and the menu-based commands are easy to navigate, and this year's new Apple CarPlay smartphone integration system is a cool feature." -- Edmunds (2016)

Cargo

The 2018 Chevy Tahoe has 15.3 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third-row seats, 51.7 cubic feet with the third row folded, and 94.7 cubic feet with both rear rows down. Those are below-average figures for the large SUV class. A power liftgate and a hands-free power liftgate are available to make loading easier. The second- and third-row bench seats feature a 60/40 split that gives you more versatility when hauling passengers and cargo. Power-folding third-row seats are available. The downside to seats that fold flat is a high load floor.

  • "Less thrilling is the raised cargo floor, designed to accommodate the fold-flat rear seats; it lessens cargo room vertically and increases the lift-over height when loading." -- Autotrader (2017)
  • "Cargo capacity isn't great for a vehicle in this class. … Not only is the space limited compared to the competition, but the load floor itself is inconveniently high in order to house the folding third-row bench seats. This makes loading bulky cargo more strenuous, especially for smaller people." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "What surprised me the most was the Tahoe's relative lack of cargo space. Due to the spare tire and full frame construction, the load floor is waist-high, not helped any by a storage compartment in the floor taking up another couple inches. With the third row of seats up you can get groceries or a couple suitcases in back, but if you're moving six folks and their luggage you want a Suburban (or a minivan)." -- Autoweek (2015)
