Which Used Chevrolet Cruze Trim Is Right for Me?

The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze is available in two body styles: sedan and hatchback. It also comes in five trims: L, LS, LT, Diesel, and Premier. With its impressive list of standard equipment, the base trim is an excellent value. Standard technology includes a 7-inch touch screen, enhanced smartphone integration, and a rearview camera. As you climb the trim ladder, you'll find features that often aren't available in lower trims, particularly regarding driver assistance technology. With that in mind, you may want to consider the Chevrolet Cruze LT.

When new, Chevrolet offered a lot of options for the 2019 Cruze. That means you may be able to find Chevrolet Cruze models with features in addition to those listed here.

  • Chevrolet Cruze L: The Cruze L comes only as a sedan. Standard features include a 153-horsepower four-cylinder engine, remote keyless entry, Teen Driver, a rearview camera, and the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with two USB ports, Bluetooth, a four-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.
  • Chevrolet Cruze LS: The LS sedan doesn’t add much over the L aside from a three-spoke deluxe steering wheel, but it is the lowest trim available with options such as remote start and cruise control. This is also the lowest trim available in both body styles, and the LS hatchback includes the LS sedan’s options as standard equipment.
  • Chevrolet Cruze LT: In addition to the lower trims' features, the Cruze LT comes with alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, automatic climate control, a split-folding rear seat, a rear center armrest with cup holders, a rear USB port, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, and steering wheel audio and cruise controls. The LT is also the lowest trim to offer safety features such as rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and lane change assist.
  • Chevrolet Cruze Diesel: The Cruze Diesel swaps out the gas engine for a 137-horsepower four-cylinder turbodiesel. This trim loses automatic climate control but gains proximity keyless entry, push-button start, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
  • Chevrolet Cruze Premier: The top-level Premier reverts to the gas engine and includes all of the amenities from the Diesel trim and gains back automatic climate control. This trim adds a heated steering wheel and an upgraded rear suspension. The Premier is the only trim available with advanced safety features such as automatic high-beam headlights, a following distance indicator, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning.

What Does Chevrolet's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Chevrolet offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles six years old or less and with fewer than 75,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. For its certified pre-owned models, Chevrolet extends its original new-car limited powertrain warranty to six years or 100,000 miles from the original sale date. CPO models also get a one-year/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty after the four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty expires. Qualifying vehicles also get free maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles. Chevy CPO vehicles must pass a 172-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available.

Chevrolet has one of the better CPO programs among affordable carmakers, but Honda, Kia and Mini are better, according to our analysis.

2019 Chevrolet Cruze Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2019 Chevrolet Cruze or 2019 Honda Civic?

The 2019 Honda Civic is a great compact car , and it only finishes behind the Cruze in our class rankings because of its below-average predicted reliability rating (the Cruze has an outstanding rating). Both of these cars come in sedan and hatchback body styles, but you can also get the Civic as a coupe. The Honda features a premium cabin and playful driving dynamics, especially with its available performance-oriented Si and Type R models. Aside from the Civic coupe, fuel economy and cargo space are comparable between these two vehicles, but the Civic has more agile handling, and the Civic sedan offers more rear-seat legroom.

Which Is Better: 2019 Chevrolet Cruze or 2019 Toyota Corolla?

The 2019 Toyota Corolla is a good compact car , but it can't match the standard set by the Cruze. Both of these cars are offered in sedan and hatchback body styles and have similar standard features lists, though the Corolla offers a few goodies you can’t get in the Cruze, like navigation. The Corolla sedan has more rear-seat legroom than either body style of the Cruze, but the Corolla hatchback offers less room in the back. The Chevy has more cargo space and a smoother ride than the Toyota, and the Cruze sedan has better fuel economy estimates than the Corolla sedan. While Apple CarPlay is standard in both cars, the Corolla does not offer Android Auto, and its infotainment system is slow to respond to inputs.

2019 Cruze Performance

How Does the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze Drive?

The Cruze has adequate power for most driving situations, though its acceleration is on the leisurely side. The ride feels smooth, and the suspension does a good job absorbing road impacts. This is hardly the sportiest car in the class, but the Cruze's poised handling and strong brakes make it enjoyable to drive on winding roads.

  • Base engine: 153-horsepower turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder
  • Available engine: 137-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel
  • Drivetrain: front-wheel drive
  • Transmission: six-speed automatic with the gas engine; nine-speed automatic with the turbodiesel
Does the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze Get Good Gas Mileage?

With its gas engine, the Cruze gets terrific gas mileage for a compact car . With the turbodiesel, fuel economy ratings are even better.

  • Sedan gas: 28/38 mpg city/highway
  • Hatchback gas: 28/38 mpg
  • Hatchback turbodiesel: 30/45 mpg
  • Sedan turbodiesel: 31/48 mpg

2019 Cruze Interior

How Many People Does the 2019 Cruze Seat?

The 2019 Cruze seats five people in two rows. This Chevy's cabin looks good, and it incorporates lots of soft-touch materials. The front seats are comfortable, and both rows of seats have enough legroom for most adults. The front seats also have plenty of headroom, but the sloping roofline means there isn't quite as much headroom in the back.

Standard seating features:

  • Cloth upholstery

Available seating features:

  • Synthetic leather upholstery
  • Genuine leather upholstery
  • Power-adjustable driver's seat
  • Heated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
How Many Child Car Seats Fit in the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze?

The 2019 Cruze has two complete sets of LATCH car-seat connectors for the rear outboard seats and an upper tether for the rear middle seat. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH system the second-lowest rating of Marginal for ease of use. The lower anchors are set deeply in the seats, and it requires too much force to attach the car-seat straps.

2019 Chevrolet Cruze Features

The Cruze comes with plenty of standard features, including the MyLink infotainment system. MyLink is easy to use thanks to its intuitive interface and responsive touch screen. The screen's graphics are sharp. There are physical controls for some functions, and they’re easy to reach.

  • Standard infotainment features: a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, two USB ports, a four-speaker stereo, and a Wi-Fi hot spot
  • Available infotainment features: satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, a nine-speaker Bose sound system, and an additional USB charging port
