CMS investigating potential ineligible player at Olympic
A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokesperson told the Obsever that “an investigation is underway” at Olympic High School for a potentially ineligible boys basketball player.
The district will not comment further, the spokesperson said, until the investigation is complete.
Thursday’s #BIG5 Boys Performers
Anthony Allen, Omarion Bodrick, Independence: Both players had big games in Thursday’s 78-71 win over Porter Ridge. Bodrick had 18 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and a steal. Allen finished with 25 points, six steals, five assists and four rebounds.
Jake Brockmann, Metrolina Christian: 23 points, nine rebounds in a 65-57 win over Franklin Prep.
Maurice Brown, Berry: 27 points in a 73-68 upset of Sweet 16 No. 7 Olympic. Josh Banks had 31 for Olympic. Berry is 6-4, 2-0 in the SoMECK conference. Olympic fell to 5-2, 2-1.
Daniel Sanford, Vance: 29 points, seven rebounds, seven steals, two blocks in an 89-45 win over Mooresvile.
Michael Schroeder, Christ The King: 22 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks in a close win over Cherryville.

Jordan Durant, Comenius: 19 points, 11 steals, 10 assists in a 74-25 win over Legacy Charter.
Tanajah Hayes, Vance: 14 points, four steals, three assists in a 40-30 win over Mooresville. Teammates Amhyia Mooreland (eight points, 15 rebounds), Trinity Mooreland (eight points, eight rebounds) also had strong games.
Evan Miller, Ardrey Kell: school-record 34 points in a 66-25 win over West Mecklenburg.
Braylyn Milton, Trinity Thompson, Independence: 33 points, six steals, four assists, four rebounds for Milton in a 73-39 win over Porter RIdge. Thompson had 14 points, seven steals, six rebounds and two assists.
Mya Wise, Jada Jones, Rock Hill: In a 72-36 win over CA Johnson, Wise had 17 points, 10 rebounds; Jones added 14 points, seven assists and five steals.
No. 15 Hough wins at Lake Norman
The Hough Huskies won their seventh game in a row on Thursday night, taking down the Lake Norman Wildcats 73-55 for the road win. With the win, Hough is now 3-0 in I-MECK 4A Conference play. That puts them into a three-way tie with Vance and North Mecklenburg for first place in the conference.
Jackson Bissette led the team with 16 points, icing the game in the fourth quarter with nine points from the free-throw line. While Bissette was finishing at the line, Cal Riehl was solid from beyond the three-point line, scoring nine of his 14 points from the three.
Hough came out shaky in the first quarter, only scoring 15 points and leading by a score of 15-13 entering the second. Nathan Chambers was the Hough’s offense in the first quarter, scoring eight of his 10 points to give Hough the early lead. In the second quarter, Hough outscored Lake Norman 21-15 as Beau Maye provided six of his 14 points to help the Hough run. Maye was dominating in the paint for most of the game, scoring on the short turn-around jumpers and offensive rebounds. Hough ended the first half with a 36-28 lead.
In the third quarter, Riehl made two three-pointers that helped Hough pull away in the second half as Hough was up 51-35 at the end of the third quarter. Graham Worland and Kevin Stiff both added baskets to help the Hough third-quarter run.
“Coach (Jason Grube) told us at halftime to play our game, focus on defensive rebounds, play good defense,” Hough center Beau Maye said. “Our guys played really well in the second half and we were able to pull away late in the game.”
▪ Jack Edmonson paced the Lake Norman offense, finishing with a game-leading 17 points and scoring nine of those points from three-point range.

THREE WHO MATTERED
Jackson Bissette (Hough) - The senior scoring guard led the team with 16 points. Nine of those 16 points came from the free-throw line.
Beau Maye (Hough) - The senior forward dominated in the paint all game, finishing with 14 points.
Jack Edmonson (Lake Norman) - The senior was the game’s top scorer with 17 points, with nine of those points coming from three-point range.

On the girls side, Lake Norman defeated Hough 50-42 to move to 6-0 while Hough drops to 5-5
On the JV side, both the Hough boys and girls won their matchups. The Hough JV Boys won 49-37; while the Hough JV Girls won 43-39 in overtime
