- Understanding Forageables, Bandages, and other healing items can help maximize health in-game.
Players must understand the fighting mechanics in Fortnite and know how to build to protect themselves and have an advantage in battle. On top of these two crucial parts of the Battle Royale, it's important for Fortnite players to become accustomed to the weapons and items in the game so they can easily choose what's worth taking up an inventory slot.
Fortnite: Hidden Mechanics in Chapter 5 Season 2
Fortnite is a game that's constantly evolving, and as such, players might have missed these hidden mechanics that could see them claim Victory Royale.
To survive the storm and get a Victory Royale, gamers must understand how each healing item works so they can decide which ones can make a difference at a time of need. In this article, the healing items that can be found as loot in Fortnite will be analyzed and ranked based on their usefulness and effectiveness.
Updated on March 28, 2024, by Ashely Claudino: Fortnite continues to rotate items in and out of its item pool to keep the game fresh. Weapons tend to be modified much more often than healing items. However, when Chapter 5 went live, they received a major update, which allowed players to apply healing items while moving. On top of this, some items, such as Medkits and Shield Potions, could be gradually applied, so instead of having to wait ten seconds to put on a Medkit, the timing would change according to how much health the player was missing.
10 Bandages
Desperate Times
- Effects: +15 HP, caps at 75 HP
Bandages have always been in the game, it'd be strange to play a Fortnite game without them. They're a Common rarity item, they can be found quite easily, so it's good that players can stack up to 15 of them in the same inventory slot. It takes three and a half seconds to apply a Bandage, it'll only provide 15 Health and they cap at 75 HP. The truth is, this item is only useful when there's nothing better around.
9 Forageables
Random and Inefficient
- Effects: + 5 HP or Shields
Players will find themselves ignoring Forageables just as much as Bandages, as they're nearly as inefficient. However, sometimes they will find themselves needing just a little bit of HP or Shields to top off their health, and it might just do the trick.
Fortnite: All Chapter 5 Season 2 Battle Pass Pickaxes, Ranked
Fortnite's Chapter 5 Season 2 comes with a wide set of interesting pickaxes forged in the style of Greek Mythology.
Unfortunately, when gamers search Produce Boxes, they don't know what they'll find inside; if they find a Coconut, they'll be able to restore 5 Shields, but if they find a Cabbage instead, it'll only increase their health stat.
8 Honorable Mention: Barrels & Slurp Trucks
A Nice Surprise
- Barrel Effects: +10 HP or Shields
- Slurp Truck Effects: +100 HP or Shields
Gamers will find Barrels in certain locations in Fortnite. There are two types of barrels in the game: Shield Barrels, and Slap Barrels. Both of them increase the player's HP or Shields by 10. However, Slap Barrels are even better, as they temporarily grant fans the Slap effect, which allows them to sprint without losing stamina. When players find Barrels, they'll usually find a couple of them, which allows them to get a decent amount of health back. On top of this, destroying barrels also grants XP.
Slurp Trucks work just like the Barrels, but they're much more efficient, as they give up to 100 HP. Unfortunately, they're not as common.
7 Small Shield Potion
Shield to Go
- Effects: +25 Shields, caps at 50 Shields
Small Shield Potions, also known as mini shields or simply minis, are one of the most notorious items in Fortnite, and they're highly valued by competitive players.
Fortnite: Every Mythic Weapon in Chapter 5 Season 2, Ranked
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 features a great selection of Mythic-rarity weapons with powerful abilities - here’s every weapon ranked.
Small Shields add +25 Shield and take two seconds to drink. However, they can't be used past 50 Shield. The good thing about this item is how quickly they can be applied and the fact that it's possible to stack six of them. In the heat of battle, after being hurt, they're the perfect item to use when there are only a couple of seconds to spare.
6 Medkit
Max Health Within Seconds
- Effects: +100 HP
The Medkit is certainly an upgrade compared to Bandages. It gets the player back up to their max health, and it only needs to be applied once. Just like Shield Potions, Medkit got an upgrade when Chapter 5 dropped. They progressively increase players' health, which means they no longer have to wait 10 full seconds for it to apply 100 HP at once.
The amount of time it takes to apply a Medkit will depend on how much health the player needs. There are certainly better and faster alternatives but it's definitely worth taking it along with some shields, particularly in situations when the storm is high on one's tail.
5 Shield Potion
Best Way to Max Out the Shield Meter
- Effects: +50 Shields
Shield Potions are most commonly known as big shields or big pots. The Chapter 5 update significantly improved Shield Potions. Before, players would have to wait 5 seconds for the effect to kick in, but now, they will progressively increase their Shield up to 50. If the player doesn't need that much Shield, it'll take less time to apply the potion as well.
4 Fish
40 HP in a Second
-
Effects:
- Small Fry: +25 HP, caps at 75 HP
- Shield Fish: +40 Shields
- Flopper: + 40 HP
The Small Fry isn't the best healing item in the game, but they mostly appear inside coolers or if players don't have any Fish Holes nearby. However, that is not the case with the other two fish available in the Battle Royale mode.
Fortnite: 5 Most Customizable Skins
Fortnite players can customize various skins to make them more unique and personalized. These are the best skins to edit.
While Shield Fish and Floppers aren't as practical to acquire as some of the other items on this list, they're one of the best Shield and HP regeneration options available. To get a Shield Fish or a Flopper, gamers must use a fishing rod on Fish Hole. Alternatively, they can also search inside coolers, but they might find Small Fries instead. Regardless, both of these fish will regenerate players' health or Shields by 40 within a second.
3 Banana of the Gods
Agility of the Gods While Healing
- Effects: + 100 HP (3 HP/tick), increases sprinting speed, increases jump height
The Banana of the Gods can be considered a foreagable since gamers can find it inside Produce Boxes as well as other chest containers. However, it's worth separating it from common fruits and vegetables, as it belongs in a completely different tier.
This is the only Legendary-rarity healing item in Chapter 5 Season 2. It heals players by 100 HP, increasing their health at a rate of 3 HP per tick. On top of this, it has an effect similar to that of the Aspect of Speed medallion - it'll allow players to sprint faster and jump higher.
2 Chug Splash
Great on the Go
- Effects: +20 HP or Shields, shareable
The Chug Splash is a collective Shield generating item just like the FlowBerry Fizz. However, it takes less time to apply. The Chug Splash can be found as floor loot or inside chests; they are also always found in stacks of two and can be stacked up to six cans.
To use this item, a player has to throw it on the floor, the cans will break and cause a splash that immediately provides +20 Shield to any player nearby.
1 FlowBerry Fizz
Sharing is Caring
- Effects: +100 Shields (3 Shields/tick), shareable, Hop Rock effect
FlowBerry Fizz comes in a bottle, and the character will shake it before it, similarly to a champagne bottle, allowing them to share its inside with any nearby players. As gamers come in contact with the FlowBerry extract, they'll increase their 3 Shields per tick and receive a Hop Rock effect for 5 seconds.
