What travelers are saying
- ANGELO VMilan, Italy2,939 contributionsThe collection in the Württembergische Landesmuseum are all about the local history of the land around Stuttgart.
It is one of the best museums I ever visited: you really feel immersed in the local history, through the exhibits, the explanations provided, and the interactive stations in it.
The museum covers three floors:
- underground floor has the glass collection, with glass pieces from the classical antiquity to modern ones;
- the first floor has several rooms:
-- the "Antiquity" room
-- the "Kunstkammer" (Cabinet of art and curiosities of the dukes, later kings of Baden-Württemberg
-- the numismatic cabinet
-- three rooms dedicated to the Celtics
- the second floor rooms contains the "Legendary Masterpieces": a dozen rooms will tell you about the local history from the Stone Age, through Bronze and Iron Ages, the Celtic period, the Roman rule and the decadence of the Roman Empire, the Frankish era, the Middle Ages, the institution of the Duchy and Kingdom of Baden-Württemberg
There are also a collection of Renaissance clocks and the kings' crypt, but these were closed on the date of my visit.
A Café, a museum shop and a lounge complete the services available at the museum.Written July 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The tour is rather short and visitors are allowed in only with a guided tour. English tours are only available on the weekend. There is a restaurant on site and hiking trails behind the palace. It's worth a visit. I wish I had brought a picnic lunch so I could spend some more time outside enjoying the view.Written January 17, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SquidheadCosta Mesa, CA450 contributionsNice to stroll around here, people-watch, and enjoy the royal palace in all its splendor. Very good photo-ops and places to picnic or just relax, with a palace in the background!Written October 20, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lowryeppEpping, UK912 contributionsExcellent exterior and courtyard (the original "stud garden" - horse breeding), main entrance off yard - some displays, cafe, events are free, other exhibits are not hugely expensive.. Very interesting chapel, could be explained better.
Around the out side is a unique chamber to the Valkyrie plot - well worth visiting. Great to know that some Germans opposed the NS, but worrying that modern political groups are trying to capitalise on both sides (This part not for small children) Free.Written October 31, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
