We all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon here. The food, service and ambience was excellent. It felt very relaxed as there was plenty of space between each party and we had plenty of time for our booking. Will definitely be going again!

This was a Black Friday offer for afternoon tea on a weekday afternoon in January. Really great business idea, so well done The Castle. The food and drinks were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our January treat! Thank you.

First time here for afternoon tea and thoroughly enjoyed it! Went for my mother’s 75th birthday and had a great time. Amazing selection of food and treats, plus one of our party was vegetarian and so they catered fully for them too. Would definitely go again.

The whole experience was wonderful and made for a perfect 60th birthday treat. The service was outstanding and the afternoon tea was of the highest standard we’ve ever experienced. The pot of tea was the best tasting tea we’ve had and we even brought home a little doggie bag full of delicious cakes. Nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend afternoon tea at the Castle Hotel to anyone considering it.

The food was great - my only thought - I wish they would have asked about food allergies and preferences, I'm allergic to salmon and I can't tolerate pickles. So if I could have had no pickles and a different sandwich besides salmon, it would have been perfect. I usually don't like tea, the waitress suggested a tea and I loved it.

The afternoon tea was wonderful but I was a bit annoyed that having been told the day before that parking was no problem and just go straight in, I found I had to pay NCP for parking. The fact that one of the staff then sorted that out is immaterial, I would have thought a hotel of such standing would be able to allow its visitors to park easily and without cost.

Excellent selection of afternoon tea items. The scones were particularly good. The only significant negative was the need to install, and register with, the NCP app in order to park in the hotel car park, which ruined our initial experience. I'd recommend parking elsewhere.

This was my first time here for afternoon tea but my wife's third or fourth time. I enjoyed the afternoon tea and service was very good. My wife did note there was quite a significant difference in the amount of choice from her last visit and today, but she still enjoyed it and we would book again.

Relaxed and casual atmosphere. Haven’t been for some time, found the “ new” room and set up with comfortable and casual seating to be very amenable. Recognition of special occasion ( birthday) was done simply but well.

I bought a gift voucher for a champagne afternoon tea for 2 adults and 1 child (10 years old) - unfortunately the children's menu was exactly the same as the adults menu which wasn't very child friendly, they were able to offer ham and grated cheese sandwiches as an alternative but the children's offering needs to be looked at. They were unable to offer just plain scones which was disappointing. Unfortunately we needed to look for staff when we required a top up of hot water for our tea pots - it wasn't hugely busy. It would have been nice to have clean knives for our scones.. I think they are charging high end prices but need to up their game.

A lovely leisurely afternoon tea in the light and dairy Drawing Room of the Castle Hotel. All of the staff were very polite and welcoming - especially our server who was attentive but not intrusive. The staff were also very helpful in ensuring there were no access issues for a mobility scooter. The food was delicious. Would not hesitate to return in the future!

Lovely waiters who were very knowledgeable. Beautiful room within an amazing old building. The food and drinks were very yummy! Great selection of teas, I couldn't decide what to have. We went to celebrate a birthday, and it was perfect.

A lovely afternoon with my family . Ryan was attentive and professional. He was very well informed regards food and drinks . The sandwiches and sweet treats were amazing- scones still warm and so fresh. The team also acknowledged my mothers birthday with a treat of sweets .

The lack of atmosphere in the room was the problem here. There was only one other couple in the room, and if they had not been there I don’t think we would have stayed. Nondescript piped music was dreary Everything else was good, but I don’t think we will return, sorry, but you need to do better.

Great afternoon tea, all were made fresh, tasted fabulous, and plenty of it. In fact had to take a box of uneaten treats home with us. Only shortfall was that on this day the room was cold and had to wear coats to keep warm.

Inside the castle is so pretty but we were sat in an ordinary room which looked new. Not where I expected to be sitting bit disappointed as wasn't very special. Afternoon tea ok, have had better!

Excellent service. Had higher expectations re food not achieved. Had better teas elsewhere for less money. This was a gift so we were disappointed on behalf of the giver. By far the most annoying part was 2 people sitting themselves at a vacant table next to us looking at a laptop, talking really loudly, not eating! This was not conducive to a relaxing experience. Disappointing experience

I was really disappointed with the cream tea. I chose the castle as it was my friends 40 birthday and I wanted her to experience something special. However we were not in the usual beautiful room, it was a back room, cold and lacking character. My mother ordered an oat latte and the lady who brought this over told my mum “we don’t have oat milk so made you almond milk” she proceeded to plonk the coffee down and leave..not really a great service for customers. I had called over a week before the cream tea to explain dietary requirements, which they catered to really week, even swapping my friends sandwich at the last minute because she was picky. The Sandwiches were AMAZING. However the cream tea wasn’t its usual standard of decadence, a shop bought mince pie..not really why I booked the castle. All in all I was really disappointed I wanted to give my friend the birthday treat that would make her feel special and that she would remember for ever, however everything about this experience was unremarkable and lacklustre. The worst part was when my friend told me she has had a better cream tea at the Cleave hotel in Wellington! Not really what I wanted her to take away from the birthday treat I wanted to give her. I normally bring my family here for an afternoon tea before or shortly after Christmas, this year I will be booking elsewhere until I am assured the Castle is back to its usual high quality, exceptional service and excellent setting.

Enjoyed our afternoon very much. Only four tables being used so pleasant. Music too loud with only a few people . Lesson needed in kitchen on gluten free scones. The worst I think I have ever had, they were more like a biscuit. Unable to spread butter or jam, had a crumbled mess which I ate with teaspoon, very very dry. Sandwiches superb.Cake forks would have been good for our cakes, to make it extra special. Service was good ,just a shame not obviously enough staff,not uncommon at the moment anywhere, for one person to remain in the room all the time rather than us waiting for her to come from the kitchen in order to ask for more milk. Having said all this it was a most enjoyable belated birthday treat. Just sort the scones….seriously it isn’t difficult I have a lovely recipe!!Get a gluten free person to test drive the cakes.Thank you.

Had to leave half way through our afternoon tea due to a large party dominating the restaurant. Noise level made it difficult for us to hold a conversation so left and went elsewhere in town to continue our long awaited reunion. Not the luxury treat I was hoping to give a dear friend who I do not get to meet up with often. Other small parties moved tables out of the restaurant due to the noise. Such a shame

Lovely selection of sandwiches and cakes, far more than we could eat so had to take some home for later. Lovely building with tables well spaced. Plenty of tea and coffee available. A lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Very hot day so lovely to find ourselves in a cool air conditioned room. The food was as expected and very nice. There was plenty and it was very fresh. It would have been better to have had more suitable cutlery instead of dinner knives and forks. There was insufficient milk for a second cup and it would have been nice if the service had been more proactive rather than reactive. I was charged on the price on the day and not the price quoted at the time of the booking but will raise this with Hotel. It was disappointing to discover we had to pay for car parking. I had requested a reserved car parking space but it wasn’t clearly visible on arrival. We enjoyed our afternoon.
