On our last day in Madrid we had no fixed plans so decided to go out and explore this park. Bigger than Central Park in Manhattan, it would take a very long time to walk around the entire thing, so we obviously didn't even get to see a fraction of everything there was to see in just a few hours. We started off walking from Pozuelo de Alarcon and came into the park at the South West end. From this entrance, we followed the main paths all the way through the trees, past the Zoo, past the Parque de Atracciones and all the way down to and around the enormous lake. It was so bright and sunny and really warm for December, quite a few of the restaurants, kiosks and cafes were open even out of peak season so there was plenty of opportunity to stop for refreshment or a bite to eat. There were rowing boats on the lake that you could hire for a trip. It was very photogenic and attractive. From the lake you can see a lot of the big buildings in the city over the skyline, and from this point you are practically right on the edge of the city. The walk was pretty tiring so for those who don't fancy it, as an alternative there are absolutely heaps of metro stations at various points within the park so if you plan your visit beforehand you could cut out a lot of the walking, either by walking in and taking the metro back out, or jumping on the metro to visit all of the main points of interest. All in all I covered about ten miles during my visit, and I felt it afterwards!
