SPHINX VIRTUOSI Friday, October 20, 2023 at 7:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage PROGRAM AND ARTIST UPDATE: The Sphinx Virtuosi, a chamber orchestra comprised of alumni of the renowned Sphinx Competition, return to Carnegie Hall with the New York premiere of Mr. Foley’s Concertante for Two Double Bass Soloists with String Orchestra (co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall) featuring double bassists Xavier Foley and Kebra Seyoun-Charles. Please note that this program will no longer include a new work by Javier Farías. Quenton Blache’s Habari Gani has been added and will receive its New York premiere. The performance will also feature the New York premiere of Andrea Casarrubios’s Herencia; Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas brasileiras No. 5; works by Abel Selaocoe with the South African composer on cello, and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s Allegro vivace from Sinfonietta No. 2, “Generations,” all as previously announced. Soprano Raquel González no longer appears as part of the artist lineup for this performance and is replaced by 2023 Sphinx Medal of Excellence Award Honoree Aundi Marie Moore.


JOYCE DIDONATO MASTER CLASSES Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 4:00 PM Monday, October 23, 2023 at 4:00 PM Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 4:00 PM Resnick Education Wing ADDED EVENTS: Renowned mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato returns to Carnegie Hall to lead this impactful series of public master classes focusing on the intricacies of operatic singing. Four young professional vocalists will be selected to participate in the series which will be held in the Hall’s Judith and Burton Resnick Education Wing and streamed live online.


ALEXANDRE KANTOROW, Piano Sunday October 22, 2023 at 2:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage ARTIST UPDATE: As previously announced in March, French pianist and 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition gold medalist Alexandre Kantorow has been added to the Hall’s 2023–2024 season. Mr. Kantorow will make his Carnegie Hall recital debut, performing works by Brahms, J.S. Bach, Liszt, and Schubert. This performance replaces the originally announced October 22 recital by Maurizio Pollini.


GATEWAYS CHAMBER PLAYERS Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 3:00 PM Zankel Hall ARTIST UPDATE: Musicians from the Gateways Music Festival—including top principal players from orchestras across the country—return to Carnegie Hall. Conducted by Damien Sneed, the ensemble performs Stravinsky’s L’histoire du soldat and Wynton Marsalis’s A Fiddler’s Tale, narrated by special guest Phylicia Rashad. Bassist Joseph Conyers no longer appears as part of the artist lineup for this performance; bassist Patricia Weitzel joins the ensemble.


THE NEW YORK POPS Friday, October 27, 2023 at 8:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage ARTIST UPDATE: Tony Award nominee Derek Klena and Tony Award winner Ali Stroker will join previously announced guest artists Hailey Kilgore and Javier Muñoz, for a concert of twenty-first century Broadway tunes with The New York Pops and Steven Reineke. Jeremy Jordan and Elizabeth Stanley are not able to appear as originally announced due to scheduling conflicts.


NOVEMBER 1918: THE GREAT WAR AND THE GREAT GATSBY Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 8:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage ARTIST UPDATE: Celebrated Broadway vocalists Adam JacobsKristolyn LloydStephanie Jae ParkKate Rockwell, and Daniel Yearwood will join historian John Monsky and Orchestra of St. Luke’s for a powerful Veterans Day performance, directed by Peter Flynn. In a program titled November 1918: The Great War and The Great Gatsby, Mr. Monsky applies his signature blend of meticulously researched history and rare archival film and photography to a groundbreaking exploration of World War I, fought, in large part, to “make the world safe for democracy.”


THE ENGLISH CONCERT Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage ARTIST UPDATE: The Handel matinee concert by Harry Bicket and The English Concert is one of Carnegie Hall’s most popular annual traditions—combining exquisite ensemble work, charismatic singers, and an irresistible penchant for theatricality. This performance will feature the first full concert performance of Handel’s Rodelinda at Carnegie Hall in more than 50 years, featuring Lucy Crowe as Rodelinda, Iestyn Davies as Bertarido, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen as Unulfo, Eric Ferring as Grimoaldo, Christine Rice as Eduige, and Brandon Cedel as Garibaldo.

Designed to renew and refresh the presentation and experience of the vocal recital, SongStudio brings leading musicians and other performing artists together to mentor emerging vocalists and collaborative pianists, exploring innovative approaches to both classic and current song repertoire, and inviting new audiences to engage with the art form. The week will include public master classes with Renée Fleming as well as with soprano Angel Blue, tenor Nicholas Phan, and collaborative pianist Graham Johnson and will culminate with Zankel Hall recital showcasing the vocalists and pianists who have taken part in this intensive program.


BOSTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ANDRIS NELSONS, Music Director and Conductor Tuesday, January 29, 2024 at 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 7:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage PROGRAM AND ARTIST UPDATE: For the first of two January concerts presented by Andris Nelsons and the Boston Symphony OrchestraStride by Carnegie Hall’s 2023–2024 Debs Composer’s Chair Tania León has been added to the program. This 2021 Pulitzer Prize-winning composition is featured in place of the originally announced new work by Ms. León. The program also includes Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, featuring International Chopin Piano Competition winner Seong-Jin Cho as soloist, followed by Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. As previously announced, bass Günther Groissböck replaces Ildar Abdrazakov among the featured vocalists for the orchestra’s concert performance of Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk.


PAVEL KOLESNIKOV, Piano SAMSON TSOY, Piano Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 7:30 PM Weill Recital Hall ARTIST UPDATE: Pianists Pavel Kolesnikov and Samson Tsoy will make their Carnegie Hall piano-duo debut in a February performance that has been added to the 2023–2024 season The program includes the original four-hands version of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring; Leonid Desyatnikov’s Trompe-l'œil, commissioned for the duo by the Aldeburgh Festival in 2023; and Schubert's F-Minor Fantasie. Please note that cellist Pablo Ferrández has withdrawn from his previously announced recital with pianist Julio Elizalde, scheduled for this same date.


YUNCHAN LIM, Piano Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 8:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage PROGRAM UPDATE: In June 2022,Yunchan Lim became the youngest person ever to win gold at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. In February 2024, he makes his Carnegie Hall debut with an all-Chopin program of etudes. Franz Liszt’s Transcendental Etudes will no longer be included on this program.


BEATRICE RANA, Piano Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 8:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage PROGRAM UPDATE: Italy’s Beatrice Rana is one of the world’s top piano recitalists and a New York audience favorite. Her February 2024 performance will include Scriabin’s Fantasy in B Minor; Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s rarely heard Cipressi; selections from Debussy’s Preludes; and Liszt’s formidable Piano Sonata in B Minor. The previously announced works by Domenico Scarlatti and Isaac Albéniz are no longer on the program.


VIENNA PHILHARMONIC Friday, March 1, 2024 at 8:00 PM Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 8:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage UPDATED DATES: Carnegie Hall Perspectives artist Franz Welser-Möst leads the Vienna Philharmonic in two January programs integral to this season’s Carnegie Hall citywide festival: Fall of the Weimar Republic: Dancing on the Precipice. Please note that the orchestra’s programs have swapped dates—the program previously announced for Friday, March 1, 2024 will now be performed on Saturday, March 2, 2024. The program previously scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2024 is now on Friday, March 1, 2024. In addition, the order of the works to now be performed on Friday, March 1 has changed—the performance will begin with Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 and close with Berg’s Three Pieces for Orchestra, Op.6.


AMERICAN COMPOSERS ORCHESTRA Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 7:30 PM Zankel Hall ARTIST UPDATE: Through music spanning the 1920s to today, the American Composers Orchestra explores the United States’s influence on the Weimar Republic, and, conversely, aspects of the Weimar legacy that resonate now in American culture as part of the citywide festival: Fall of the Weimar Republic: Dancing on the Precipice. They perform Antheil’s Jazz Symphony, one of the first significant classical pieces influenced by jazz; short works by Duke Ellington, which caused a sensation during Sam Wooding and the Chocolate Kiddies’ 1925 tour of Berlin and Hamburg; and “My Ship” from Kurt Weill’s Lady in the Dark, with lyrics by Ira Gershwin. New works include a world premiere by Tonia Ko, co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall; a world premiere by John Glover, featuring mezzo-soprano Chrystal E. Williams and newly added accordionist Felipe Hostins; and the New York premiere of Clans from Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate’s Lowak Shoppala’.


YO-YO MA, Cello KATHRYN STOTT, Piano Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 8:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage PROGRAM UPDATE: Cellist Yo-Yo Ma’s is joined by longtime collaborator Kathryn Stott for a program that includes Shostakovich Cello Sonata in D Minor, Op. 40 replacing the previously announced Kabalevsky Cello Sonata. Also on the program are Fauré’s Berceuse, Op. 16 and "Papillon," Op. 77; Dvořák’s “Songs My Mother Taught Me,” Op. 55, No. 4; Sérgio Assad’s “Menino;” N. Boulanger’s "Cantique;” Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel; and Franck’s Violin Sonata in A Major (transcr. for cello by Delsart).


DANIEL LOZAKOVICH, Violin BEHZOD ABDURAIMOV, Piano Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 7:30 PM Weill Recital Hall PROGRAM UPDATE: Violinist Daniel Lozakovich makes his first Carnegie Hall appearance, partnering with his frequent collaborator, pianist Behzod Abduraimov. Robert Schumann’s Violin Sonata No. 1 in A Minor will replace the previously announced sonata by Debussy. This program also includes Beethoven’s beloved “Kreutzer” Sonata and the Violin Sonata in A Major by Franck.


YEFIM BRONFMAN, Piano Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 3:00 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage PROGRAM UPDATE: World-renowned pianist Yefim Bronfman plays Schubert’s Piano Sonata in A Minor; Faschingsschwank aus Wien (Carnival Jest from Vienna); Chopin’s demanding final piano sonata, and Sisar, a piece dedicated to Bronfman written by renowned conductor and composer Esa-Pekka Salonen. Bartók’s Piano Sonata is no longer on the program.


REGULA MÜHLEMANN, Soprano TATIANA KORSUNSKAYA, Piano Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 7:30 PM Weill Recital Hall PROGRAM UPDATE: Soprano Regula Mühlemann makes her first Carnegie Hall appearance joined by pianist Tatiana Korsunskaya performing works by Schubert, Richard Strauss, Argento, and Bridge. Within the set of songs by Frank Bridge, “Isobel”, and “Berceuse” have been added. Bridge’s “Adoration,” “When you are old,” and “Come to me in my dreams” are no longer included in the program.
