This is a notable Cannibal Corpse album because it's the only one where the censored cover is actually better than the original. I mean, which would you really prefer: another bit of standard Locke gore or the much more haunting and weirdly harrowing depiction of the album's symbolic creature on the censored version? There's no contest in my mind.
Above and beyond that, this is perhaps the most archetypal Corpsegrinder album out there. It pretty accurately sums up the latter part of Cannibal Corpse's career: fairly technical, pummeling death metal that doesn't completely excise its oldschool thrash influences and is in many ways more rocklike than your usual death metal band owing to its verse/chorus song structures. In a lot of ways, Corpsegrinder himself appears to be the leading instrument, his vocal rhythms clashing brutally with the guitars and drums, like he's singing a completely different song than the instrumental track he's over. This isn't a particularly unusual convention in Cannibal Corpse but it's more pronounced here; that's really the only thing that distinguishes this album from the others of the same era, apart from the fact that when you think of Corpsegrinder-era Cannibal Corpse, this is the music you hear in your head.
There's nothing really wrong with this album; the production is good, the songs are very listenable and accessible, it's not a slog like 'Vile' was. At the same time, 'Pounded Into Dust' is about the only song I can really remember after the CD is off, being a traditional pummeling Cannibal Corpse opener on par with most others. It's really as conventional as Cannibal Corpse gets; not really a problem, but certainly this is no match to the follow-up album, 'Gore Obsessed', possibly the band's most underrated release. A lot of dedicated Cannibal Corpse fans suggest that this is a fantastic, underrated album, but I don't really see it: it's as middle-of-the-road as the band gets and doesn't really offer a lot in repeated listens.
Still, if you like Cannibal Corpse's traditional style, there's no reason not to get this. The songs are solid if not particularly memorable and there's a thousand more known album which are worth much less than whatever you'll pay for this.

Classic death metal album with all I want from death metal (8/10)
Previous album, Gallery of Suicide, was very promising. I really liked it, sadly it gets a bit weaker in second half. Gladly, this album is more consistent, faster and more enjoyable. Along with Eaten Back To Life and The Bleeding best Cannibal Corpse albums from 90s. This record has all what i want from classic death metal album - awesome riffs which can be pretty technical, bestial vocal performance by Corpsegrinder and many awesome songs, namely Dead Human Collection and Pounded Into Dust. Brutal and enjoyable shit.Published
Quick and to the point
After the previous effort which had also introduced Pat O'Brian into the band. This was a good change of pace to get the speed and evil back up. And for the most part they succeed all throughout. On songs like hacksaw decapitation and sickening metamorphosis they completely got the energy back up. On the other hand some songs end up being average for a while and it can take some time before the album fully picks up Speed again. But after getting used to the production and the energy all throughout it is a safe recommendation and a good intro to get into CC for sure. Definitely not a skipper.Published

Mogą podobać się koncertowe i dosyć brutalne "Blowtorch Slaughter", "Dead Human Collection", "Sickening Metamorphosis" czy "Pounded Into Dust", ale też te bardziej pogmatwane kawałki w typie "Hacksaw Decapitation", "Raped By The Beast" czy "The Spine Splitter". W skrócie, jest czego posłuchać, mimo że do opadu szczeny przy "Bloodthirst" raczej daleko..."

"..."Bloodthirst" has little in common with a more rawness or aggression, and more in it - slightly referring to "The Bleeding" - technical bizarre and more selective sound. One thing has remained unchanged: it's another very good cd in the discography of Cannibal Corpse, which is not inferior to its predecessors (and even exceeds some of them)! Of course, it's also difficult to be somehow surprised when listening to it and find incredibly great advantages in a more technical approach - after all, it's a small novelty. But the music is constructed in such a way that it suits the fans of the group and conservatively continues the proven formula. However, on this album it makes sense, because - despite too many similar patents - "Bloodthirst" is really good to listen to. There can be like rhythmic and quite brutal "Blowtorch Slaughter", "Dead Human Collection", "Sickening Metamorphosis" or "Pounded Into Dust", but also the more confusing songs like "Hacksaw Decapitation", "Raped By The Beast" or "The Spine Splitter". In short, there is something to listen to, although "Bloodthirst" it's not a total revelation..."

Not to distinguishable from others. Can't really be that much of a hit since everything they do is the same. It's fine but not that good.

Ranging from the beginning until this album, there's once again a sharper and cleaner sound to the material, but at the same time that makes the aggressivity come through even more. But the sharper sound makes the sawing guitars go on like a sawmill too. Also somehow it feels like the riffs are a bit more creative. Great tempochanges, even though at times the clockwork blasting takes over a bit much. In a way also a bit more monotonic growling than before. Even though having some good screaming moments too.

Hits Differently This Time
Back in high school I, just like many of us, enjoyed Cannibal Corpse. Of course, they weren't the only band I was listening to. Brutal death metal introduced me to extreme metal, essentially, and so Cannibal Corpse was a bit of a must. I haven't really slithered into Cannibal Corpse territory much since then, at least, until they came to my city. I was in a huge Cannibal Corpse mood, so of course I was going to want to listen to them before the show. I ordered one of the boxsets. I got my copy of Bloodthirst on cassette in that box set. I don't think I've had a proper sit down with it up until just now, honestly. I remember it being a bit different.
When I first put it on and heard the pounding drums, and then those ripping leads and shredding riffs, my mouth was watering. I was so excited for the ride. And then as tie went on, I went from "Cool! Cannibal Corpse!" to "Oh, cool, Cannibal Corpse". I found myself getting distracted on the internet about halfway through, and it turned into just background sound.
Bloodthirst is great at first, but kind of lacked on keeping my attention.

Unquenchable
7 albums in and Cannibal’s knack for punishment remains unshakeable. Bloodthirst is the second record to feature the quick-to-gel lineup built on the Owen/O’Brien guitar tandem. Shifting from Morrisound to the metallic production acumen of Colin Richardson, the band closes out the nineties with a slab of blazing speed and power. Don’t expect any surprises. Bloodthirst ticks all the boxes: neck-wrenching rhythms, torturous low-end riffing, titles like ‘Blowtorch Slaughter’ and ‘Hacksaw Decapitation’ along with plenty of spastic solos and segues. Some of the slower, groovier riffs present for Gallery of Suicide are replaced by a speed-on-speed pastiche of...themselves, as evidenced in the ravaging revenge tale “Condemned to Agony”, built on a beautifully murderous riff, Fisher growling 'To chop him up is their revenge / with no remorse / they slash him / disfigure’. O’Brien lays down a wild, cyclonic lead just prior to the song’s fade-out.
Human beings on planet earth tend to acknowledge the prodigal sons and forget reliable beasts of burden. Cannibal Corpse fits squarely into the latter category, continuing to produce quality metal despite wavering support from latter-day metalheads. Here’s hoping Pat O’Brien is able to overcome his recent issues and get back to dishing out blood-gurgling death metal in short order.
