Cannes 2024: Competition Jury, Competition Lineup Revealed

Cannes Film Festival 2024 will begin on May 14 and run till May 25. 

Cannes Jury President Greta Gerwig of Barbie fame will be joined by Lily Gladstone, Eva Green, Omar Sy, Ebru Ceylan, Nadine Labaki, Juan Antonio Bayona, Pierfrancesco Favino and Kore-eda Hirokazu to award Palme d’Or awards. 

The competition lineup for the upcoming festival includes - All We Imagine as Light, Anora, The Apprentice, Bird, Caught by the Tides, Emilia Perez, The Girl With the Needle, Grand Tour, Kinds of Kindness, Beating Hearts, Limonov: The Ballad, Marcello Mio, Megalopolis, Motel Destino, Oh Canada, Parthenope, The Shrouds, The Substance, Wild Diamond. 

The list also includes The Most Precious of Cargoes, Trois kilomètres jusqu’à la fin du monde, and The Seed of the Sacred Fig. These names were added last week. 

The Palme d’Or winner will be announced at the festival’s closing ceremony on May 25.

Studio Ghibli, the animation studio behind the Oscar-winning animated feature The Boy and the Heron will be awarded an Honorary Palme d’Or at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival. This marks the first time the award will be given to a group.

Cannes Classics, the festival’s selection for tributes and retrospectives, will open with the film Napoleon Par Abel Gance.

Among the highlights is a restoration of Charles Vidor’s 1946 Gilda to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Columbia Pictures. Wim Wenders will be present for the 40th anniversary screening of Palme d’Or winner Paris, Texas, while Faye Dunaway will be present for the screening of Faye, the first documentary on her life.

From India, Manthan (The Churning) by Shyam Benegal will be showcased. It will be a presentation by the Film Heritage Foundation. The screening will take place in the presence of actor Naseeruddin Shah, the family of actress Smita Patil, producers of the film and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, Director of the Film Heritage Foundation.

Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan, whose film Mommy received the Cannes Jury Prize in 2014, will head the jury of Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival. Joining him will be Maïmouna Doucouré, Vicky Krieps and Todd McCarthy.
