Candice was born into an American family in Mississippi. She is of mixed heritage, as her mother, Arianna is African-American, while her father, Paul Patton, has European roots. While Paul was an engineer by profession, art was his true passion. As a child, he learned to play multiple instruments, but never wanted to pursue a music career. Candice’s mother, is an opera singer. She and her would-be husband met after one of her performances, and immediately started dating, and married after welcoming their first child, Adrian, to the world. Soon after they had Candice, they made the decision to relocate to Plano, Texas, possibly for work-related reasons.

Even though both of her parents were talented musicians, their marriage wasn’t marked by harmony. They divorced when Candice was five, but maintained an amicable relationship. She often went to stay at her father’s house, where she first developed an interest in acting.
