Lexy Anne Cosper

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - The woman who is facing felony DUI charges for crashing into former Chico mayor Randall Stone was bailed out of jail, Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said.

Last week, 29-year-old Lexy Anne Cosper was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, causing injury, with sentence enhancements alleging she drove with high blood alcohol and causing great bodily injury.

On April 27, Cosper was seen driving her sedan in the area where Warner Street transitions into Ivy Street in Chico, Ramsey said. Ramsey said she didn't stop at the stop sign at the crosswalk and hit Stone, barely missing his six-year-old son.

Today, Cosper was bailed out of custody on a $125,000 bond, Ramsey said. She then came into court, asking for a continuance to hire a private attorney, Ramsey said.

The judge granted the continuance, Ramsey said. Cosper will be back in court on June 12 for the appearance of her new attorney and an entry of plea.

But in the meantime, under bail conditions, Cosper can't drink, has to attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings a week and can't drive a car, Ramsey said.
