This paper describes Brazilian experience of the National Teledentistry Network as part of the Brazilian eHealth Strategy. Many institutions from all over the country participate or are being trained and receiving support to constitute their own Telehealth and Teledentistry Centers. Multiple initiatives are held in an articulated plan, enabling capacity building and consolidation of a network for collaborative work in telehealth and teledentistry.

Research into followership is becoming increasingly popular, however, many have claimed that followership is not a genuine field of inquiry as there is a lack of follower self-identity. As a result, some have gone as far as to suggest that followership should be left unexplored. In this paper, we have addressed the issue of lack of follower self-identity while arguing for the legitimacy of followership. We prescribe new ways of approaching followership, examine how these new approaches fit within the modern discourses of leadership and recommend how leadership educators should incorporate followership into their academic programs. The review has important implications for leaders, followers, leadership educators, organizations, and researchers.

Community project work is very complex and the psychologist’s role needs careful negotiation. The psychologist may make an important contribution at the nexus of theory and practice. The Nkosinathi Project began in 1997, but gained momentum from 1999 with the regular provision of adult literacy classes, using material drawn from Constructivist approaches. The project encouraged active participation of learners and the progress of the project was continually evaluated through the explicit use of Action Research cycles. Since different theoretical approaches were being used, the integration of the strands of work in a meaningful way became a challenge, to enable an understanding of factors contributing to the success of the project. This paper will explore the utility of a model of Activity Theory as developed by Engeström, as an integrative tool. Activity Theory provides a means to consider multiple levels of activity, highlights the interaction of various factors and provides a mean...

Healthcare professionals work with increasingly diverse groups of colleagues and patients in their practice, and it is essential that they develop intercultural competence. International experiences in healthcare curricula can help in this development, but healthcare students on courses tend to have limited opportunities for travel. This paper presents data on the use of an online classroom to provide an environment in which physiotherapy students from two countries could work together to review video case studies to enhance their knowledge and understanding of selected patient conditions and compare different approaches to diagnosis and treatment. These activities were integrated into the usual curriculum in both countries. Evaluation of students’ experiences showed that they valued the opportunity to engage with their peers in another country and were readily able to identify professional and academic benefit from participation. They commented on the impact on their professional i...
