As a parent there are some policies that I don’t agree with like the attendance. If you miss any days you don’t have much option as a parent to decide what is best for your child. I am glad to finally not have to deal with this school district after next month.
Very introverted community-not welcoming to anyone whose family has not lived there for generations.
Burke county public schools was a low funded administration. Most of the money in the county seemed to go to sports rather than helping supply classroom supplies and learning supplies for teachers. A lot of the financials fall on the teachers to provide for their classrooms. I went to BCPS from Kinder to 12th grade. My best times came from teachers who would alwasy go the extra mile and make sure that their students were not falling behind. My favortie teacher was Holly Joines, she was not only an amazing teacher but a person who could light up a room when she walked in. She was amazing.
I would say my worst time at Burke County Schools would be my freshman and sophmore high school years where a lot of bullying seemed to take place. I was to scared at the time to say something but I wish I would have sooner. I would like to see there be more support for teachers, higher pay for teachers, and easier access to consolers in BCPS.
