Couldn't finish
hallmarkmov22 June 2021
Got through the first 10 minutes and turned it off. The sexism within the first 5 minutes was just over the top and the next 5 minutes got worse and worse. Don't know what the point of the movie is at all. The fake exhausting women preach about making their husbands happy, cooking for them and making themselves look good every day- did we travel back to the 1920s? Give this one a pass.

Not even "Full Bridal Jacket" - this movie should come with novocaine
olympicator2 July 2020
The screenwriter was asleep at the wheel. This story went all over the place - suddenly sticking profound insights into people's mouths with no warning, painfully stupid dialogue, badly disguised flirting, no chemistry among any of the characters, bizarre plot twists that could break a viewer's neck.

I hated everything about the floral designer, Casey Connor - he constantly intruded on Andy's life to the point where I thought he was going to gas her and stick in the back of a van, he claimed to have feelings for Andy but I honestly could not tell if he really did or he just was using her for a good time, and I thought the actor was quite bad. I've never seen Sandvig in anything besides "Easy A," but here he had one facial expression, which he basically stole from Gene's parents in "The Emoji Movie."

None of the acting did much for me. The two lead actresses were sort of cute but I did not believe much of the drama from them. And the "drill sergeant" of the boot camp was, well, not all that intimidating! I'm not saying she should have been R. Lee Ermey, but she could have had more presence, to spoof the genre of "boot camps" a little more. I was hoping, from the title, that this would be a kind of "Full Bridal Jacket," but everything about the camp was understated and silly (not to mention, most of the exercises were stuff that the brides could easily have done on their own).

Andy's fiancé was barely developed at all. He hardly showed up in the entire movie! He just worked a lot - is working some kind of crime, incompatible with true love? I guess so! Screenwriter didn't care.

This movie was not funny, either intentionally or unintentionally. I didn't get any romantic feel from it, either - and I like "The Wedding Singer" and "The Princess Bride," just in case you were wondering. Andy is supposed to be a dressmaker, but we saw almost no scenes with her creating a dress. They could have tied that in with the story more. Not one character convinced me that she or he was the person that the movie told us she or he was. Like I said, the movie failed to spoof the "boot camp" aspect, and it had no other surprises in store for me. None.

I only gave this movie 2 stars rather than 1 because it didn't offend me. It couldn't even rise to that occasion. "Bridal Boot Camp" was awkward, unimaginative, forced, and in spite of what some of the characters later claimed, I don't think anyone learned anything from it. At least a real boot camp would have been rigorous and life-changing.

friendzone material
SnoopyStyle20 October 2019
Bridal dressmaker Andy Phillips (Spencer Locke) just wants to be herself with her fiancee Jordan. Her best friend Felice Davis convinces her to join a bridal boot camp. Whitney Walsh is the hardcore teacher. Then Andy meets delivery guy Casey Connor (Jake Sandvig) while cake tasting alone.

I'm not rooting for the Andy and Casey pairing. Sandvig doesn't have it. Jordan is a blank. I get the premise but the movie doesn't execute it. Locke is an appealing lead but it's also hard to nail down her relationship with the men. I'd rather Casey stay in the friendzone. Andy's fight with Felice is confused. I'm not feeling much of this.

Stepford Brides

Warning: Spoilers
There's so much to say about this movie. Really none of it good.

Let's talk about the sets to begin with. They're community-theater level sets. As a community theater actor, director, and costumer, I say that with all the love in my heart for community theater. I just expect a film on Netflix to deliver better quality sets. They're obviously fake. And when they're not, they're obviously the home of someone who grudgingly acquiescesed to having their home used after a cast or crew member begged.

Secondly, the script. Ugh. The script. I watched this with my niece who's got 3 little girls of her own. We were horrified at the message this movie seemed to send about women and marriage. Then it seemed to do an about face, but maybe not? What about the the bully Bridal Boot camp drill instructor and the stereotypes of women who attended: the intellectual, the sorority chicks, the dumpy one, the bimbo, etc. Yawn. So tired and insulting.

The men. Eyeroll. The fiancé was a characterless blob in a hunky meat suit with too-perfect, too-white teeth who clearly had so little invested into the relationship that it made you question the intelligence and basic people skills of the protagonist (said questioning supported by the entitled attitude of the Best Friend who inexplicably seemed to acquire some human qualities by the end of the film).

And the florist/stalker. Ugh. By the end, we were predicting he'd show up at the wedding in one of two ways: popping out of a floral arrangement (funeral wreath?) or emerging from the fountain in goggles and a snorkel. Creepy.

Lastly, as someone who's designed and constructed many bridal gowns over the years: what in the ever-loving blazes was that monstrosity the BFF was supposed to wear? Egads. Thank Gods she took those awful flowers and whatever else was cluttering up the bodice off. :/

Unless you get wasted and want to hate-watch something, don't bother. Then again, this movie spends so much effort trying to be un-ironic, it's difficult to even do that.

Horrible
michelle-wernersept8 September 2017
So angry I was duped into renting this against my better judgment by a 4-star average based on TWO REVIEWS. I couldn't even finish this garbage. Don't waste your money; I'm telling you. And Amazon doesn't even offer SD prices anymore. So mad. Also, don't bother reviewing unless you have five lines of feedback. Garbage!!

If you like hallmark style movies. I'm sure you will enjoy it was sweet and relaxing to watch, not a blockbuster by any means just enjoyable.

My husband on the other hand calls all movies like this death by a thousand words.

All over the place
Jackbv12324 February 2021
The story seemed to me to be all over the place. Andy seemed like two different people, or more even. This story was filled with philosophies on love and marriage and they were even more all over the place. Andy's speech at the end made no sense for the setting because it was in the movie to contrast to the boot camp rules, but only 5 people would have known about them.

The whole idea of an engaged woman flirting with another single man turns me off. As to what was wrong with her relationship with her fiancé, what was she thinking going into it? The guy is in med school and apparently working a job too. Of course he is going to be tired and not around much.

As for acting, it seems like Spencer Locke was shouting way too much. And Jake Sandvig seemed to be working real hard to enunciate everything he said. Even so, they had some chemistry.

Totally irrelevant observation: I watched this on UpTV, yet the engaged couple was already sleeping in the same bed. No judgment, but it surprises me a little. Because that is so unrealistic, I joke about the fact that Hallmark, which is slightly less conservative than UpTV, never has unmarried people sleeping together.

This movie has a special place in my heart.
chris_ts26 April 2021
The first time I saw the movie was with my sister. It reminds me of our after midnight movie nights. About the movie, the leading couple was cute. The boot camp was nice. That part maybe it would be better if it was a little bit funnier. The couple had chemistry but the kiss it was plain. All the other characters had their charm. I kinda bored to hear the same song over and over. Seriously. Get a songwriter and add three or four songs.

Below average Halmark

Kind of a dumb story. We like almost all of the Halmark movies.

Spencer is super cute, I could watch her all day.

Loved it
noorng29 June 2018
I don't know why some of the reviews are so negative, I really liked the movie i find it really cute and light hearted, the actor who did casey's role was kinda cold and awkward but I actually liked that. I'm not a huge fan of romantic movies that get too deep and too sad which is why i liked this one, I didn't get bored watching it maybe its not for the older aged people since the story might be considered too silly for them.

There is bad, there is horrible...and then there's this.
ironmando-6797023 October 2023
(I will preface this review by saying, I am the epitome of the target audience for this type of movie. I'm an absolute sucker for made-for-tv rom coms, and I've watched hundreds upon hundreds of them. Seriously, I have a list.)

The writing in this movie is, in a word, atrocious...

Shortly into watching, you are introduced to the "Bridal Boot Camp". The theme: If you don't conform to the 1950's stereotype of the "perfect" wife, you suck, your marriage will suck, and your husband won't love you. Yep, you read that right. Seriously, I'm not kidding.

The "instructor" starts off with the cliche of insulting all the participants, and then proceeds to give a set of rules which may have well been titled "How to set gender equality back 60 years". And she's actually serious about them, it's not written as a joke. Any self respecting woman who wasn't born 4 generations ago not just walking out of the class at this point defies belief, but yet...

I made it through the second segment of the "Boot Camp" (which was just more of the same message), about 30 minutes in, before actually turning the movie off. Perhaps only the second or third time I've ever done that in my 500+ history of rom-coms. It's among the worst writing I've ever seen in a rom-com.

If you want to see women desperate to learn from an instructor trying to mold them into Donna Reed while treating them like crap, then this movie is for you! If not, then avoidance is suggested.

Not that bad but not that good either
Roony729 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I was looking for a romantic movie to pass the time and I thought why not give "Bridal Boot Camp" a go. Well, I can't honestly say I liked it but I didn't entirely hate it either. The lead actress is cute and this role fits her and the chemistry with the male lead was good but I had this feeling that something was missing. The fiancé's character on the other hand wasn't well-developed. The best friend's character was horrible! I think she was mean to Andy (Spencer Locke) most of the time for no apparent reason. Also, Andy's insistence to continue going to the boot camp and defending its owner with such a passion was kind of weird.

The ending was sweet though and I especially liked the speech Andy gave; it was heartfelt and actually well-written.
