Shante Broadus Is The Latest “Boss Lady” To Help Narrow The Gender Gap In The Music Industry

Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, (known professionally as Snoop Dogg), has always credited his wife Shante Broadus with guiding his career. Last month, he made it official by appointing Shante Broadus, his wife of 23-years, to his executive team as his manager. Already an entrepreneur, mother, and the founder of Boss Lady Entertainment (BLE), Broadus will advise and oversee Snoop Dogg’s full portfolio of ventures.

Women in hip-hop have been historically underrepresented, particularly behind the scenes in executive roles. A 2019 study from Women in Music and the Berklee College of Music found that 84% of women have been mistreated because of their gender and 68% said that their gender affected their employment. Broadus’s appointment is another step forward along the trail of realizing gender equality.

“The industry at large is seeing a major shift in more representation of Black women in key executive roles. I am excited to enter this official position, helping to further expand Snoop’s wide-ranging empire,” said Shante. “I have been by Snoop’s side for over twenty years so together with the rest of the team, our goal is to strengthen Snoop’s legacy as a brand with the loyalty and trust of our guidance that has made Snoop who he is today.”

With her new chief appointment Broadus will  manage all upcoming projects, including Snoop Dogg’s Snoopermarket shop, the Snoop Youth Football League, and Snoop Dogg’s Summer Tour that’s planned through 2022. She’ll also maintain and fortify future partnerships across cannabis, spirits, gaming, music, touring, licensing, and film landscapes of Snoop Dogg’s empire.

“Shante has been guiding my career behind the scenes from day one,” says Snoop. “She has always been my final gut check with all my decisions, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without her. I am grateful to have her as my official manager, helping to build the Snoop Dogg empire together.”

Broadus was key in managing Snoop Dogg’s early career. As a wife and the mother to three of Snoop’s four children, she held down the house while Snoop Dogg toured and was always his final gut check before big decisions. She attributes communication, staying true to yourself, and being confident to ask for help are her core tenets for success.

Additionally, Broadus supervises the Compound, an event space with music-recording and dance studios owned by Snoop Dogg. The Compound’s recording studio has hosted artists and musicians like Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hussle, and of course Snoop Dogg.

Guided by a New York Times bestselling author, Broadus will soon release her first book, “Paid the Cost to be the Boss Lady.” This memoir will recount her life, relationship with publicity, and will include every lesson she learned along the way. She offers advice to enterprising women — single, in relationships, young and mature — to value family and source strength by being your biggest supporter.
