No bootcamp icons?

I installed Bootcamp via Bootcamp Assistant on my MacBook Pro. The install was nominal and I can run my Mac as a Mac and as a Windows 7 computer *if* I press the OPTION key during boot-up.

But...

I do not have a Bootcamp icon on the taskbar when I am running my laptop as a Mac or as a Windows PC. I have to restart to get to the screen where I press the option key while booting.

What have I done wrong and can it be fixed?

The Boot Camp icon is only for Windows' task bar, after you have successfully installed the Boot Camp drivers from the BC 3.1 update or the Mac OS X Restore or Installation DVD you used.

There is no Boot Camp icon for Mac OS X.

To restart your Mac to bot into Windows: System Preferences > Boot Camp.

I'm not sure what you are saying here.
I installed bootcamp assistant from the helper file in Utilities on my macbook pro.
As far as I can tell, there is no bootcamp.exe or similar file in any of my windows 7 folders.

First, did you install the Windows driver package from your Snow Leopard DVD? If so...

Look for a "Startup Disk" Control Panel in Windows as well as the Boot Camp item in the System Tray (rightmost area of the taskbar by the clock). The icon in the system tray should look like a grey diamond.

Both of these will allow you to reboot into OS X.

In OS X You have to go to System Preferences->Startup Disk to select Windows as your boot volume.

And I am not sure I follow you.

Have you installed the WIndows drivers from the Mac OS X Restore (grey) or Installation (white) DVD?
They can also be downloaded from Apple and have to be run while in Windows.
(Boot Camp 3.1 drivers for Windows 7 32-bit, (Boot Camp 3.1 drivers for Windows 7 64-bit).

Once you have installed BC drivers:

And in Mac OS X there is no Boot Camp icon, as written before by me and Darth.Titan, you need to open System Preferences, select Startup Disk and select the Windows partition to restart to.

Thanks...I installed Bootcamp in Windoze and am now updating to 3.1.

I guess I was offput by the fact there is no BootCamp icon on the mac side to switch from Mac to Windoze.

When was this Icon removed? I remember, for several years, there was a Boot Camp icon in the mac notification area that had the option to reboot into Windows. I recently did a full clean install of Windows 7 and OS X El Capitan, and now it's gone.

I don't ever remember seeing a Boot Camp icon while in OS X. You can have a Windows icon appear during boot up when you start your Mac but it requires the installation of third party software: The rEFIt boot manager for example adds a Windows icon to your startup.

I know I am very late to the party, but I had the same problem. No black/grey diamond in the lower right corner of windows, and no "Boot Camp" in Windows Control Panel. What worked for me was to take the USB stick that the Mac OS Bootcamp manager had me create during the creation of my bootcamp partition with the Windows drivers on it, plug it into the computer, find the folder "WindowsSupport" and in there I double clicked "setup" to run the installation of the actual bootcamp functions (little black diamond on the task bar, and "Boot Camp" in the control panel). I can also now view my Mac OS partition of the hard drive and copy files from the mac side to the windows side.
Anyway, I know this is quite late, but I just thought I would share how i fixed the problem.
