Has the subtlety of a sledgehammer but it doesn't really whip up the sense of injustice that it should given the topic. A youngish Mila Kunis elevates it slightly. Ultimately a kinda drab film that feels very 2000s. It was actually filmed in Fiji though so it fits the March Around the World bill extra nicely.
After watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Prime Video of course recommended another Mila Kunis classic, some garbage called Boot Camp.
Casting a 26 year old Mila Kunis to play a 17 year old trouble maker in high school is peak 1980s camp horror. Unfortunately, this movie was released in 2009. I'm not under any illusions this is exclusively a 1980s camp trope, but I believe the sentiment fits.
Some of the quote - unquote (noted for emphasis) - dramatic scenes in this film are downright laughable. Instead of a shred of drama or dramatic elements all I could hear was sad trumpet noises.
one of the most satisfying endings ever, too bad this looks worse than a lifetime movie.

Decent thriller drama involving teens stuck at a Bootcamp that’s more like prison. It’s a little boring at times I’m not gonna lie. 😂
A true exploitation film, but also one that strives to right the wrong it’s exploiting. However, the film lacks the depth or the style to make an impact. Points for earnestness tho.
A pretty silly attempt at some "shocking" cinema that comes off as if it were written and/or directed by someone who's never actually experienced one of these kinds of places. Despite a talented lead cast, "Boot Camp" never lives up to its promise.
Although based on a true story, it quickly loses all believability within the first 15 minutes when the "bad kids" are drugged and kidnapped in the US just to wake up in another country. Are we supposed to believe that they made it through customs at the airport asleep? Like really?
I know versions of these "Bad Kids Scared Straight Boot Camp"places do exist but that's definitly not how they end up there.
It's just hard to take anything seriously after that.
Oh and what is up with this poster, it deals with topics like sexual abuse and you have a photo of Mila Kunis with a tight top putting focus on her boobs and with a big sign saying…
