Sandra Marek Behringer was born in Blue Island, Illinois, into a Polish-American

community.

HAWKS CROSSING, (book 1] in her Hawks Crossing Series set in southern Indiana, was published in 2005 followed by ELIZABETH'S DAUGHTERS, (book 2) & TESSA, (book 3), both published in 2013. Her novel of historical fiction, THE GIRL WHO WAS A KING, (2017) is now in paperback as of 3/2020. The book is based on the life of Jadwiga, Poland's legendary 14 C girl-king.

Sandra's poetry book, ONLY A PASSAGE, is on her website: sandramarekbehringer.com.

Sandra is now at work on BACK ROADS, her 2nd book of poems and on book 4 of the Hawks Crossing Series.

A graduate of Mundelein College in Chicago with a graduate degree in Communication Disorders (Northwestern University) Sandra practiced as a speech pathologist for 25 years then was an editor for a local weekly newspaper. She had a third career as Director of Planned Giving for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Her Catholic faith, her family and her midwestern roots have nurtured her writing.

A voracious reader, Sandra has been writing poems and stories since childhood. For many years her poems appeared frequently in the Criterion Newspaper in Indianapolis and in church bulletins, magazines and newsletters. Her poetry has won both local and national recognition and her poem, "A Prayer for Sleepwalkers,"won first place in the 2008 INSPIRIT national competition of the Baughman Memorial United Methodist Church. l

John Behringer, Sandra's husband, is a photographer whose photos illustrate her poems and covers of her novels. The Behringers have four sons and live in Indianapolis where they are surrounded by a large and loving family.
